Scotland secures a “formidable” £800 million investment in battery energy storage 👇 Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has announced it will build two more battery storage sites in Scotland in partnership with Susgen subsidiary Alcemi. The £800m investment in the 1 GW Coalburn 2 and 500 MW Devilla will see Scotland become home to some of the largest BESS projects in Europe. It comes three years after Scotland’s SNP administration pledged £80 million in support for the Acorn developers and the Scottish Cluster centred on Grangemouth. “Gillian Martin and the SNP have run out of excuses for not releasing the funding they promised for Acorn and didn’t even have the decency to mention the project in its 2025-26 Scottish Budget," said Scottish Conservative MSP Douglas Lumsden. Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce has called on First Minister John Swinney to reverse the policy, which it claims aims to “hasten the end of North Sea production” in a move that is “disconnected from reality”. “We should be leveraging the expertise of our oil and gas workforce to lead the global energy transition. The same engineers who make the North Sea one of the safest and cleanest production basins in the world can pioneer carbon capture, hydrogen production, and offshore wind. But we can’t get there by demonising the very industry that these workers and companies rely on for work," said AGCC chief executive Russell Borthwick.
