Principal's Message

The School of Engineering (SOE) had a humble beginning in 1978 with a few post graduate and Ph.D. programs in Engineering. Now, with over 3000 students, it has assumed a formidable size as the largest academic unit of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), a State Govt. University accredited by NAAC with A+ Grade in October 2022. In 1995, the School started B.Tech programs in four conventional disciplines, such as, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering, and a novel UG programme, Information Technology, for the first time in India. In 1996, yet another novel UG programme, B.Tech in Safety and Fire Engineering, was introduced for the first time in the world. B.Tech program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering was added in 2003. Currently, the nine Departments of the School offer 10 UG programmes, 11 PG programmes and PhD in most of the engineering disciplines serving all the stake-holders in the best way possible. The School has executed projects worth more than Rupees 250 lakhs through its research and consultancy activities. The School received Rs. 17 core under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) in Phase-II and Phase-III and modernized its research and other infrastructures.

About School of Engineering

School of Engineering was established in 1978 for offering part-time M.Tech.Programmes in the major deciplines of engineering viz.Civil, Mechanical,Electrical and Chemical Enginnering for practicing engineers in and around Cochin.Research activities were introduced in 1981 with Ph.D. Programmes.The School introduced B.Tech. Progrmmes in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Enginnering and Information Technology in 1995, which turnes out to be a milestone in the growth of the School.B.Tech. in Safety and Fire Engineering was added in 1996. A five-year integrated M.Sc. Programm in Software Engineering was startes in 2001.

School of Engineering has been well accepted as research centre. A number of research projects have been sanctioned to the School by agencies like DSDT,Centeral Water Commission, ISRO, AICTE, Coir Board, Kerala State Coir Corporation, etc.These have helped to establish fullly equiped laboratories and promote rearch activities.The M.E. (by research) prrogramme was intoduced in 2001 in arious disciplines. The research community of the School has published papers in international/national level journals

All the seven full-time B.Tech. programs in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical& Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology, and Safety and Fire Engineering, offered in the School of Engineering, CUSAT, are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation under Tier-I of the Washington Accord till 30 June 2025

Team Horizon CUSAT, a group of 38+ undergraduate students from various departments qualifies for finals of European Rover Challenge conducted by European Space agency. With a world-wide rank of 21 in European Rover Challenge, the Team is about represent India with their MARS ROVER prototype at the finals to be held Poland on Sept 14-17,2023.
