From the outset it has been likely that the phone-hacking scandal involved not just one reporter or one newspaper or even one newspaper group.

Newsnight has new allegations involving Mirror Group Newspapers and the former wife of Sir Paul McCartney.

Heather Mills claims that a senior journalist within the Mirror Group admitted to her that in 2001 her phone was hacked.

Ms Mills told Newsnight the name of the journalist but for legal reasons we have decided not to broadcast it, as Richard Watson reports.
