Safety Shout Out

This month’s Safety Shout Out goes to Richard-Todd Zicarelli! Richard is a Senior Engineer II and Lecturer for the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering at the FIU Engineering Center (EC). Richard has always been a strong advocate of safety and compliance; running a tight ship when it comes to the Engineering Manufacturing Center and Student Machine Shop. Richard actively identifies and reports safety concerns that could potentially impact the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff working in the area. With over 45 years of experience in manufacturing and aerospace industries, Richard’s organization of workspaces, clear communication of hazards and compliance expectations, and strict adherence to regulatory rules and regulations are well known throughout the Engineering Center. Richard recently played an instrumental role in helping students set up hot work permits to continue construction of the formula one car to compete internationally representing FIU. Dr. Daniela Radu, Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering, states “I am truly delighted to see Rick Zicarelli’s commitment to safety recognized. Whether assisting students in hands-on laboratory modules or supporting senior design teams in FIU’s Engineering Manufacturing Center, Rick consistently upholds the highest safety standards. He ensures that students not only learn manufacturing processes but also adopt best practices. The machine shop is exceptionally well-organized and maintained, always in compliance with safety rules, reflecting the discipline and rigor that Rick brings to our mechanical engineering training.” Thank you, Richard, for being a champion for safety at EC!
