Special issue of Theor. Inf. Appl. + Cockett's article in Theor. Comput. Sci.<>
Getting to Coimbra: From Porto, by train (CP) from So Bento (in the very center) or Campanh (less central, but on the Lisbon-Braga main train line) or by coach (Rede Expressos) from Garagem Atlntico (rua Alexandre Herculano). From Lisbon, by train (CP) from Sta Apolnia (in the city) or Oriente (close to the airport) or by coach (Rede Expressos) from Sete Rios.
The Coimbra main train station, Coimbra A, is not on the Lisbon-Porto-Braga main line. You have to get off at Coimbra B to change to a local commuter train (a 5-minute connection). The Department of Mathematics is walking distance from Coimbra A and a bit further but still walking distance from the coach station. The climb up the hill is steep, however. See this map.
Registration to FICS 2009 is through the CSL/PPDP/LOPSTR workshops registration page. The registration fee of 80 EUR (no early/late difference) includes 4 coffee breaks and a workshop dinner Sat evening. All workshop participants will receive a copy of the informal workshop proceedings. The early registration deadline of the CSL/PPDP/LOPSTR conferences is 31 July.
For travel planning: The workshop will begin at 9.00 on Saturday, 12 September and finish at 15.30 on Sunday, 13 September.
Fixed points play a fundamental role in several areas of computer science and logic by justifying induction and recursive definitions. The construction and properties of fixed points have been investigated in many different frameworks such as: design and implementation of programming languages, program logics, databases. The aim of the workshop is to provide a forum for researchers to present their results to those members of the computer science and logic communities who study or apply the theory of fixed points. Previous workshops were held in Brno (1998, MFCS/CSL workshop), Paris (2000, LC workshop), Florence (2001, PLI workshop), Copenhagen (2002, LICS (FLoC) workshop), Warsaw (2003, ETAPS workshop) (check the FICS history).
Topics include, but are not restricted to:
Robin Cockett (University of Calgary)
Javier Esparza
(Technische Universitt Mnchen)
Yde Venema
(Universiteit van Amsterdam)
Selection of contributed talks is based on extended abstracts/short papers of 3..6 pp formatted with easychair.cls. Submission is via EasyChair by 30 June 2009 (closed). The authors will be notified of acceptance/rejection by 21 July 2009.
Camera-ready versions of the accepted contributions, due by 11 August 2009, will be published for distribution at the workshop as a technical report.
If the number and quality of submissions and accepted talks warrant this, EDP Sciences will publish a special issue of Theoretical Informatics and Applications. The special issues of the previous editions of FICS (all but one) appeared in the same journal.
