Experimental investigation of exotic clustering in $^{13}$B and $^{14}$C using the resonance scattering method / Di Pietro, A (INFN, LNS) ; Fernández-García, J P (INFN, LNS ; Catania U.) ; Ferrera, F (INFN, LNS) ; Figuera, P (INFN, LNS) ; Fisichella, M (INFN, LNS) ; Lattuada, M (INFN, LNS ; Catania U.) ; Marletta, S (INFN, LNS) ; Marchetta, C (INFN, LNS) ; Torresi, D (INFN, LNS ; Catania U.) ; Alcorta, M (TRIUMF) et al.
In order to investigate the existence of molecular and/or exotic cluster configurations in Boron and Carbon n-rich isotopes we undertook two experiments: the first experimental study of exotic 9Li+α cluster states in 13B using the resonance scattering method at TRIUMF (Canada), and, with the same technique, the measurement of 10Be+α scattering at LNS in Catania, where a 10Be radioactive beam was produced for the first time. In order to measure the excitation function in a wide energy range, the beams were stopped in a Helium-flooded chamber. [...]

The Extreme Energy Events (EEE) experiment consists in a network of cosmic muon tracker telescopes, each made of three Multi-gap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPC), able to precisely measure the absolute muon crossing time and the muon integrated angular flux at the ground level. To investigate the MRPC telescope response and performance, a simulation tool was developed in GEMC, software package based on GEANT4 libraries. [...]

Measurements with cosmic muons to monitor the stability of a civil building on a long time-scale / EEE Collaboration
Due to their penetration capability, cosmic muons may provide a way to monitor the alignment and possible long term deformations of large structures, such as historical or other civil buildings. The basic idea behind this possibility is to look for any misalignment between position-sensitive detectors, fixed to different parts of the structure, relative to the original alignment condition. Due to their efficiency, tracking capabilities and long-term operational conditions, Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPC) may be used in a stable location in coincidence with additional detectors fixed to other parts of a civil building, to detect relative displacements of different parts of the building due to long term deformations of the structure. In this contribution we report the results of two different measurements carried out in the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Catania (with three floors above the ground and an underground basement), using one of the MRPC telescopes of the Extreme Energy Events project, in coincidence with two scintillator-based muon telescopes located in various positions inside the building. The Extreme Energy Events (EEE) experiment is a project by Centro Fermi (Museo Storico della Fisica e Centro Studi e Ricerche “Enrico Fermi”) in collaboration with INFN, CERN and MIUR, designed to study cosmic rays via a network of muon telescopes, based on the Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPC) technology. Due to its wide coverage over the Italian territory (more than 10° in latitude and longitude, covering more than 3x10$^5$ km$^2$), the EEE network is the largest MRPC – based system for cosmic rays detection. Towards a full and realistic simulation framework for the Extreme Energy Events experiment / EEE Collaboration
The network of MRPC (Multi-gap Resistive Plate Chambers) telescopes of the Extreme Energy Events experiment (EEE) was designed to study very high energy cosmic rays through detection of secondary cosmic muons in the hadronic shower. To better understand and predict the behavior of such events, a GEANT4-based simulation framework that well reproduces the response of individual telescopes was built. [...]

Search for coincident air showers over large scale distances with the EEE network / La Rocca, P (Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome ; Catania U. ; INFN, Catania) ; Abbrescia, M (Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome ; Bari U. ; INFN, Bari) ; Avanzini, C (Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome ; INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; Baldini, L (Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome ; INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; Baldini Ferroli, R (Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome ; Frascati) ; Batignani, G (Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome ; INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; Battaglieri, M (Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome ; Genoa U. ; INFN, Genoa) ; Boi, S (Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome ; Ferrara U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Bossini, E (Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome ; CERN ; Ferrara U. ; INFN, Rome) ; Carnesecchi, F (Enrico Fermi Ctr., Rome ; INFN, Bologna ; U. Bologna, DIFA) et al.
The existence of time correlations in detectors separated by distances much larger than the size of the highest energy extensive air showers (EAS) has been long discussed over the years. Several mechanisms have been proposed to justify the existence of such events and, in the last decade, some experiments have also tried to search for correlations on a large scale distance, beyond one hundred kilometers. High-resolution cross section measurements for neutron interactions on $^{89}$Y with incident neutron energies up to 95 keV / Tagliente, G (INFN, Bari) ; Milazzo, P M (INFN, Trieste) ; Paradela, C (Geel, JRC) ; Kopecky, S (Geel, JRC) ; Vescovi, D (INFN, Perugia ; Cagliari Observ.) ; Alaerts, G (Geel, JRC) ; Damone, L A (INFN, Bari ; CERN) ; Heyse, J (Geel, JRC) ; Krtička, M (Charles U.) ; Schillebeeckx, P (Geel, JRC) et al.
The cross section of the $^{89}$Y(n, $\gamma $) reaction has important implications in nuclear astrophysics and for advanced nuclear technology. Given its neutron magic number N = 50 and a consequent small neutron capture cross section, $^{89}$Y represents one of the key nuclides for the stellar s-process. [...]
