First observation of the $K_{S}\to \pi^{0}\gamma\gamma$ decay / NA48 Collaboration
Using the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS, 31 $K_{S}\to \pi^{0}\gamma\gamma$ candidates with an estimated background of $13.7 \pm 3.2$ events have been observed. This first observation leads to a branching ratio of $BR(K_{S}\to \pi^{0}\gamma\gamma)_{z>0.2} = (4.9 \pm 1.6_{stat} \pm 0.9_{syst}) \times 10^{-8}$ in agreement with Chiral Perturbation theory predictions..
