Improvements on the LHC Interlock BPM system / Bozzolan, Michele (CERN) ; Boccardi, Andrea (CERN) ; Guillot-Vignot, Franck (CERN) ; Degl'Innocenti, Irene (CERN) ; Daricou, Joel (CERN) ; Wendt, Manfred (CERN) ; Barros Marin, Manoel (CERN)
The LHC interlock BPM system is used as part of the beam abort system to insure that beam trajectories in those regions are conform with a safe extraction of the beams from the main ring to the dump lines. After more than 10 years of operation, the system has shown some limitations in bandwidth and dynamic range and a study was initiated to look for improvements. [...]

The Installation and Commissioning of the AWAKE Stripline BPM / Liu, Shengli (TRIUMF) ; Dirksen, Paul (TRIUMF) ; Gessner, Spencer (CERN) ; Guillot-Vignot, Franck (CERN) ; Medina, David (CERN) ; Søby, Lars (CERN) ; Verzilov, Victor (TRIUMF)
AWAKE (The Advanced Proton Driven Plasma Wakefield Acceleration Experiment at CERN) stripline BPMs are required to measure the position of the single electron bunch to a position resolution of less than 10 µm rms for electron charge of 100 pC to 1 nC. This paper describes the design, installation and commissioning of a such BPM system developed by TRIUMF (Canada). [...]

Commissioning of ALPS, the New Beam Position Monitor System of CERN’s Super Proton Synchrotron / Boccardi, Andrea (CERN) ; Albertone, Joel (CERN) ; Barros Marin, Manoel (CERN) ; Bogey, Thierry (CERN) ; Kain, Verena (CERN) ; Li, Kevin S B (CERN) ; Malinowska, Patrycja A (CERN ; AGH-UST, Cracow) ; Topaloudis, Athanasios (CERN) ; Wendt, Manfred (CERN)
The Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) is both, the final machine in the pre-accelerator chain of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, and a machine providing several experiments with proton and ion beams. In the framework of CERN’s LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project, aimed at improving the performances of the pre-accelerators in view of the high-luminosity upgrade of the LHC, the Beam Position Monitor (BPM) system of the SPS was redesigned during Run 2 of the LHC and deployed during the subsequent Long Shutdown 2 (LS2). Technology and First Beam Tests of the New CERN-SPS Beam Position System / Wendt, Manfred (CERN) ; Barros Marin, Manoel (CERN) ; Boccardi, Andrea (CERN) ; Bogey, Thierry (CERN) ; Degl'Innocenti, Irene (CERN) ; Topaloudis, Athanasios (CERN)
The CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) uses 215 beam position monitors (BPMs) to observe the beam orbit when accelerating protons or ions on a fast ramp cycle to beam energies of up to 450 GeV/c. In the frame of the CERN LHC Injector Upgrade (LIU) initiative the aged, and difficult to maintain homodyne-receiver based BPM read-out system is currently being upgraded with A Logarithmic Position System - ALPS. A Modular Approach to Acquisition Systems for Future CERN Beam Instrumentation Developments / Boccardi, Andrea (CERN) ; Barros Marin, Manoel (CERN) ; Levens, Thomas (CERN) ; Szuk, Balint (CERN) ; Viganò, William (CERN) ; Zamantzas, Christos (CERN)
This paper will present the new modular architecture adopted as a baseline by the CERN Beam Instrumentation Group for its future acquisition system developments. The main blocks of this architecture are: radiation tolerant digital front-ends; a latency deterministic multi gigabit optical link; a high pin count FMC carrier used as a VME-based back-end for data concentration and processing. Harmonic Based Beam Position Measurements on Debunched Beams / Bozzolan, Michele (CERN)
In some accelerator environments, e.g. in linear accelerator (LINAC), the beam position is measured with a BPM operating at one particular strong harmonic component present in the beam signal. [...]

BPM Time of Flight Measurements for Setting-up the RF Cavities of the CERN Linac4 / Bozzolan, Michele (CERN)
The newly constructed H$^-$ LINAC4 at CERN has recently completed its first extended reliability run. It is equipped with Beam Position Monitors (BPMs) based on shorted-stripline pick-up electrodes to measure both position and Time of Flight (ToF). [...]

New Beam Position Monitors for the CERN LINAC3 to LEIR Ion Beam Transfer Line / Søby, Lars (CERN) ; Baud, Guillaume (CERN) ; Bozzolan, Michele (CERN) ; Scrivens, Richard (CERN)
The ion injection line into the CERN Low Energy Ion Ring (LEIR) has recently been equipped with nine, new, electrostatic Beam Position Monitors (BPMs) in order to measure and optimize the trajectory of the low intensity ion beams coming from LINAC3. In this paper, we describe the design of the BPM, the low noise charge amplifier mounted directly on the BPM, and the digital acquisition system. [...]
