/ Fiore, S (CERN) ; Ferraro, R (CERN) ; Zimmaro, A (CERN) ; Danzeca, S (CERN)
The RadMon system at CERN is a radiation monitoring solution designed for the accelerator complex and experimental areas, providing real-time, precise measurement of radiation levels impacting electronics. This paper presents the capabilities of the RadMon device, which measures Total Ionizing Dose (TID), Displacement Damage (DD) in silicon, High Energy Hadrons (HEH), and thermal neutron fluence. [...]

Novel method to assess the electromagnetic radiation damage using HGCAL silicon sensors
/ Fialova, E (CERN ; CTU, Prague) ; Defranchis, M M (CERN) ; Kopsalis, I (Athens U.) ; Peltola, T (Texas Tech.)
Studies of the silicon dioxide (SiO$_{2}$) passivation layer in n-on-p silicon sensors, which will be used in the CMS High Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL), are important for improving their performance notonly at the High-Luminosity LHC, but also at future high-energy physics experiments. This work explores a novel method for estimating the effect of surface radiation damage on inter-pad isolation in HGCAL sensors by measuring the threshold voltage for inter-electrode isolation V$_{th,iso}$. Test diodes with different SiO$_{2}$ variants are irradiated with X-rays, and their characteristics are measured at a controlledtemperature of -20°C. [...]

Damage Limits of - and - Superconductors Due to High-Intensity Beam Impact

High-energy hadron colliders with multi-TeV centre-of-mass energies require high-field superconducting magnets. Examples include the large hadron collider (LHC) and its high-luminosity upgrade (HL-LHC), as well as future projects such as the future circular collider (FCC-hh) and super proton–proton collider (SPPC). Characterization of the FBK-LGAD devices manufactured at an external foundry for large-volume productions
/ CMS Collaboration
In recent years, the HEP detector community has shown an increasing interest in Low Gain Avalanche Diodes (LGADs) due to their excellent temporal resolution, good radiation resistance, and low material budget. An example of this is the upcoming CMS Endcap Timing Layer (ETL), a subdetector which will feature four disks (14 m$^{2}$) covered with these devices. In this context, Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), one of the qualified producers of the ETL LGAD sensors, has recently initiated a technology transfer of the FBK-LGAD technology to an external CMOS foundry (LFoundry) in order to enable a larger and cost-effective production. The first prototype run from LFoundry was produced in May 2024. Irradiation tests of the OBDTv1 board at CHARM
/ CMS DT Collaboration
The CMS Muon Drift Tube (DT) chambers require an upgrade oftheir on-detector electronics for operation in the High LuminosityLHC (HL-LHC) due to increased radiation, occupancy and triggerrates. The new On-Detector Board for Drift Tubes (OBDT) digitizesdrift signals with a resolution of 0.8 ns and transmits them viahigh-speed optical links into the counting room, where the fulldetector information will be available to perform the trigger andevent building logic. Towards sustainable RPC detectors: Exploring CO2-based gas mixtures for CERN LHC experiments
/ Rigoletti, Gianluca (CERN) ; Guida, Roberto (CERN) ; Mandelli, Beatrice (CERN) ; Verzeroli, Mattia (IP2I, Lyon) ; Juks, Stefania A (U. Paris-Saclay)
Resistive Plate Chamber detectors at the CERN LHC experiments use a Freon-based gas mixture containing R-134a and SF6, high global warming potential greenhouse gases. To minimize greenhouse gas emissions and expenses and optimize RPC performance, it is crucial to research new environmentally friendly gas mixtures. [...]

Rad-hard readout system for Timepix3 Hybrid Pixel Detectors
/ Cabrera, Gabriela (CERN) ; Jensen, Steen (CERN) ; Joul, Juri (CERN) ; McLean, Mark (CERN) ; Sandberg, Hampus (CERN) ; Storey, James (CERN)
The Beam Gas Ionisation (BGI) profile monitor, located in the Proton Synchrotron (PS) andSuper Proton Synchrotron (SPS) at CERN, requires a radiation-tolerant readout system to transferdata from the challenging accelerator surroundings to the back-end for processing. The systemneeds to control and acquire data from four Timepix3 Hybrid Pixel Detectors (HPDs) locateddirectly inside the beam pipe, a highly radioactive environment. [...]

Fab-to-fab and run-to-run variability in 130 nm and 65 nm CMOS technologies exposed to ultra-high TID
/ Termo, G (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Borghello, G (CERN) ; Faccio, F (CERN) ; Michelis, S (CERN) ; Koukab, A (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Sallese, J M (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne)
The discovery of a large fab-to-fab variability in the TID response of the CMOS technologies used in the design of ASICs for the particle detectors of the HL-LHC triggered a monitoring effort to verify the consistency of the CMOS production process over time. As of 2014, 22 chips from 3 different fabs in 130 nm CMOS technology and 11 chips from 2 different fabs in 65 nm CMOS technology have been irradiated to ultra-high doses, ranging from 100 Mrad(SiO$_{2}$) to 1 Grad(SiO$_{2}$).
