RadMon: a versatile, integrated radiation monitoring system for accelerators and experiments electronics at CERN / Fiore, S (CERN) ; Ferraro, R (CERN) ; Zimmaro, A (CERN) ; Danzeca, S (CERN)
The RadMon system at CERN is a radiation monitoring solution designed for the accelerator complex and experimental areas, providing real-time, precise measurement of radiation levels impacting electronics. This paper presents the capabilities of the RadMon device, which measures Total Ionizing Dose (TID), Displacement Damage (DD) in silicon, High Energy Hadrons (HEH), and thermal neutron fluence. [...]

Operational Experience & Performance With the ATLAS Pixel Detector at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN / Lindon, Jack (CERN) ; ATLAS Pixel Collaboration /ATLAS Collaboration
The tracking performance of the ATLAS detector relies critically on its 4-layer Pixel Detector, with a sensitive area of ~1.9 m2 and 92 million pixels. Its original part, consisting in 3 layers of planar pixel sensor is continuously operating since the start of LHC collisions in 2008, while Its innermost layer, the Insertable B Layer (IBL) at about 3 cm from the beam line, was installed in 2015 before the start of LHC Run2 and consists of both planar and 3D pixel sensors, with FE-I4 readout frontends at 130nm CMOS technology. Compact tracking calorimeters for the detection of low-energy cosmic-ray (anti-)nuclei / Losekamm, Martin J (Munich, Tech. U. ; ORIGINS, Garching ; ESTEC, Noordwijk) ; Eckert, Liesa (Tech. U., Munich (main)) ; Hinderberger, Peter (Munich, Tech. U. ; ORIGINS, Garching) ; Meyer-Hetling, Luise (Munich, Tech. U. ; ORIGINS, Garching) ; Paul, Stephan (Munich, Tech. Low-energy cosmic and solar radiation serves as a probe for investigations in astrophysics and heliophysics, and at the same time constitutes a risk to the spacecraft and crew of deep-space exploration missions. We present compact tracking calorimeters made from scintillating-plastic fibers and silicon photomultipliers that can determine the charge and energy of individual cosmic-ray nuclei with energies in the MeV-to-GeV range. Online X-Ray Radiation Induced Attenuation of RPL Dosimeters: Dose Rate Dependence at High Doses / Mandal, A Raj (Jean Monnet U.) ; Ferrari, M (Jean Monnet U.) ; Aguiar, Y Q (Jean Monnet U. ; CERN) ; Morana, A (Jean Monnet U.) ; Alía, R García (CERN) ; Hasan, A (Jean Monnet U. ; Unlisted, NO) ; Marin, E (Jean Monnet U.) ; Ouerdane, Y (Jean Monnet U.) ; Boukenter, A (Jean Monnet U.) ; Girard, S (Jean Monnet U. ; IUF, Paris)
Monitoring radiation levels accurately in high-dose environments is essential, particularly as the need for dose monitoring in the kGy-MGy range increases. Most dosimetry techniques are not reliable at these dose levels, necessitating the exploration of alternative methods. [...]

Overview of the radiation levels in the CERN accelerator complex after LS2 / Canesse, Auriane (CERN) ; Zimmaro, Alessandro (CERN) ; Prelipcean, Daniel (CERN) ; Ricci, Daniel (CERN) ; Di Francesca, Diego (CERN) ; Lerner, Giuseppe (CERN) ; Garcia Alia, Ruben (CERN) ; Danzeca, Salvatore (CERN)
The PSB, PS, and SPS accelerators at CERN provide high-energy proton and ion beams to a wide range of experiments, from fixed targets to the world’s biggest particle accelerator: the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In 2021 and 2022, their beams have reached unprecedented intensities thanks to the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) undertaken during the Long Shutdown 2 (LS2) in preparation of the High-Luminosity (HL) LHC era. The Beam Gas Ionization (BGI) profile monitor is an Ionization Profile Monitor used for continuous, non-destructive transverse beam profile measurements in synchrotrons at CERN. Electrons are produced when residual gas in the beam pipe is ionized by the proton or ion beams orbiting the particle accelerator. [...]

CERN accelerates sustainability / Losito, Roberto (CERN) ; Métral, Elias (CERN)
CERN is pursuing several initiatives to reduce its impact on the environment through an integrated approach to address all the objectives set by the relevant United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). In particular CERN is committed to respect the net-zero paradigm for future machines and has established a Sustainable Accelerators Panel to harmonize the approach to sustainability of the various studies for future accelerators.
