Building Scalable Analysis Infrastructure for ATLAS
/ Gardner Jr, Robert William (University of Chicago (US)) ; Lancon, Eric (Brookhaven National Laboratory (US)) ; Vukotic, Ilija (University of Chicago (US)) ; Bryant, Lincoln (University of Chicago (US)) ; Golnaraghi, Farnaz (University of Chicago (US)) ; Stephen, Judith Lorraine (University of Chicago (US)) ; Taylor, Ryan (University of Victoria (CA)) ; Hu, Fengping (University of Chicago (US))
/ATLAS Collaboration
We explore the adoption of cloud-native tools and principles to forge flexible and scalable infrastructures, aimed at supporting analysis frameworks being developed for the ATLAS experiment in the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) era. The project culminated in the creation of a federated platform, integrating Kubernetes clusters from various providers such as Tier-2 centers, Tier-3 centers, and from the IRIS-HEP Scalable Systems Laboratory, a National Science Foundation project. Investigating Data Access Models for ATLAS: A Case Study with FABRIC Across Borders and ServiceX

/ATLAS Collaboration
This study explores enhancements in analysis speed, WAN bandwidth efficiency, and data storage management through an innovative data access strategy. The proposed model introduces specialized ‘delivery’ services for data preprocessing, which include filtering and reformatting tasks executed on dedicated hardware located alongside the data repositories at CERN’s Tier-0, Tier-1, or Tier-2 facilities. Hyperparameter optimization (HPO) of neural networks is a computationally expensive procedure, which requires a large number of different model configurations to be trained. To reduce such costs, this work presents a distributed, hybrid workflow, that runs the training of the neural networks on multiple graphics processing units (GPUs) on a classical supercomputer, while predicting the configurations’ performance with quantum-trained support vector regression (QT-SVR) on a quantum annealer (QA). Quench Protection of Fusillo Subscale Curved CCT Magnet

The Fusillo project at CERN aims to design and build a demonstrator magnet with multi-harmonic corrected fields in a 90° curved CCT magnet. In the first stage, a subscale magnet is built with 30° bending, about 1/30 of the demonstrator conductor length, and increased current to reach coil stresses equivalent to the demonstrator. [...]
