High intensity beam dynamics assessment and challenges for HL-LHC
/ Rumolo, G (CERN) ; Salvant, B (CERN) ; Mounet, N (CERN) ; Tomás, R (CERN) ; Bartosik, H (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, P (CERN) ; Bruce, R (CERN) ; Buffat, X (CERN) ; Calaga, R (CERN) ; De Maria, R (CERN) et al.
The High Luminosity (HL-LHC) project aims to increase the integrated luminosity of CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by an order of magnitude compared to its initial design. This requires a large increase in bunch intensity and beam brightness compared to the first LHC runs, and hence poses serious collective-effects challenges, related in particular to electron cloud, instabilities from beam-coupling impedance, and beam-beam effects. Recent advances in the CERN PS impedance model and instability simulations following the LHC Injectors Upgrade project

Transverse instability growth rates in the CERN ProtonSynchrotron (PS) are studied thanks to the recently updatedimpedance model of the machine. Using this model, macroparticletracking simulations were performed with a new method well-suitedfor the slicing of short wakes, which achieves comparableperformance to the originally implemented method while reducing therequired number of slices by a factor of 5 to 10. Mitigation strategies for the instabilities induced by the fundamental mode of the HL-LHC Crab Cavities
/ Giacomel, L (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, P (CERN) ; Calaga, R (CERN) ; Buffat, X (CERN) ; Mounet, N (CERN)
The transverse impedance is one of the potentially limitingeffects for the performance of the High-Luminosity Large HadronCollider (HL-LHC). In the current LHC, the impedance is dominatedby the resistive-wall contribution of the collimators at typicalbunch-spectrum frequencies, and is of broad-bandnature. [...]

We demonstrated that ultra narrowband filtering at 30 GHz dramatically enhances the signal-to-noise ratio to search for dark matter candidates which couple to millimeter waves. [...]

Progress on HTS Undulator Prototype Coils for Compact FEL Designs
/ Richter, S C (CERN ; KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Schoerling, D (CERN) ; Nes, T H (CERN) ; Bernhard, A (KIT, Karlsruhe, IKP) ; Müller, A S (KIT, Karlsruhe)
Compact free-electron lasers require short accelerator structures followed by high peak field and short-period undulators to produce coherent radiation up to hard X-rays. Likewise, future lepton colliders, like CLIC or FCC-ee, require high-field damping wigglers for the creation of low emittance beams. [...]

High-Temperature Superconducting Undulator Prototype Coils for Compact Free-Electron Lasers
/ Richter, S C (CERN ; KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Bernhard, A (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Grau, A W (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; de Jauregui, D Saez (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Müller, A S (KIT, Karlsruhe)
Short-period and high-field undulators are crucial for the production of coherent light up to X-rays in compact free-electron lasers (FELs). Besides, future colliders like CLIC or FCC-ee demand high-field damping wigglers to reach a low beam emittance. [...]

Spectral purification of single-frequency Stokes pulses in doubly resonant integrated diamond resonators
/ Granados, Eduardo (CERN) ; Stoikos, Georgios (CERN) ; Stoikos, Georgios (Natl. Tech. U., Athens)
Pulsed spectrally pure light is required for applications in high-resolution spectroscopy, optical coherent communications, and quantum technologies. In this work, we report on the efficient generation of high peak power, single-frequency, and tunable nanosecond pulses utilizing stimulated scattering, with an increased spectral brightness by exploiting double resonances in an integrated diamond Raman resonator. Stability limits with Landau damping in the FCC-hh

The resistive wall impedance is one of the expected main drivers of transverse beam instabilities in the proposed Future Circular Collider hadron-hadron option (FCC-hh). We obtain the resistive wall impedance for the FCC-hh beam screen from a two-dimensional finite element solver. [...]

First measurement of the $|t|$-dependence of coherent J/$\psi$ photonuclear production
/ ALICE Collaboration
The first measurement of the dependence on $|t|$, the square of the momentum transferred between the incoming and outgoing target nucleus, of coherent J/ψ photoproduction is presented. The data were measured with the ALICE detector in ultra-peripheral Pb-Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV with the J/$\psi$ produced in the central rapidity region $|y| < 0.8$, which corresponds to the small Bjorken-$x$ range $(0.3 − 1.4) \times 10 ^{−3}$.
