Shutter-type multi-point optical alignment using a Structured Laser Beam in vacuum / Niewiem, Witold Grzegorz (ETH, Zurich (main) ; CERN) ; Figura, Sebastian Antoni (CERN) ; Dusek, Martin (Liberec Tech. U. ; CERN) ; Mergelkuhl, Dirk (CERN) ; Gayde, Jean-Christophe (CERN) ; Wieser, Andreas (ETH, Zurich (main))
This paper presents an alignment concept employing a Structured Laser Beam (SLB) for offset measurements over a 140 m distance. The prototype consists of an SLB generator and three measurement stations within a vacuum system. [...]

Development and Qualification of Micrometre Resolution Motorized Actuators for the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider Full Remote Alignment System / Noir, Michel (CERN) ; Biedrawa, Piotr (CERN ; AGH-UST, Cracow) ; Fargier, Sylvain (CERN) ; Jasonek, Wojciech (CERN ; AGH-UST, Cracow) ; Sosin, Mateusz (CERN)
In the framework of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider project at CERN, a Full Remote Alignment System (FRAS) is under development, integrating a range of solutions for the remote positioning of accelerator components. An important component of FRAS is the motorized actuator allowing the remote adjustment of accelerator components with a micrometer resolution. [...]

Generation of symmetrical optical caustic beams for precise alignment / Dusek, Martin (CERN ; Liberec Tech. U.) ; Gayde, Jean-Christophe (CERN) ; Sulc, Miroslav (Prague, Inst. Plasma Phys.)
Generating layers of symmetrical optical caustic beams using a specific configuration of cylindrical lenses is an innovative idea with potential application in precision alignment and other fields. The technique allows the generation of layers of non-diffracting beams with opposite accelerating directions. [...]

Numerical simulation of large tunnel alignments under seismic loading: The Large Hadron Collider as a case study / Mubarak, A G (CERN ; Dundee U.) ; Knappett, J A (U. Dundee) ; Brown, M J (U. Dundee)
Three-dimensional seismic analysis of large tunnel alignments using the continuum (Finite-Element; FE) modelling technique can be computationally expensive. This is due to the extended length of tunnels compared to their diameter (which controls the local ground-structure interaction and hence, the required maximum FE element size). [...]

LHCb RICH Fast-timing photon detection at the SPS charged particle beam / Bartolini, M (Cambridge U.) ; Bolzonella, R (Ferrara U. ; INFN, Ferrara) ; Borgato, F (Padua U.) ; Cardinale, R (Genoa U. ; INFN, Genoa) ; Cojocariu, L N (Bucharest, IFIN-HH) ; Cotta Ramusino, A (INFN, Ferrara) ; Duk, V (INFN, Perugia ; Perugia U.) ; Fantini, L (INFN, Perugia ; Perugia U.) ; Foulds-Holt, D (Cambridge U.) ; Keizer, F (CERN) et al.
Abstract The use of a new optoelectronic readout chain with  𝒪(100)ps time resolution is a major milestone in the development of RICH detectors for environments with a high number of particle interactions per bunch crossing, such as the High-Luminosity LHC. A prototype chain, based on MAPMT and SiPM photon sensors coupled to readout electronics integrating the FastIC ASIC and a TDC-in-FPGA, is presented. [...]

Motorized Universal Adjustment Platform for Micrometric Adjustment of Accelerator Components / Noir, Michel (CERN) ; Baillard, Dylan (CERN) ; Biedrawa, Piotr (CERN ; AGH-UST, Cracow) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) ; Gothe, Aleksandur (Aarhus U.) ; Jasonek, Wojciech (CERN ; AGH-UST, Cracow) ; Nuiry, Francois-Xavier (CERN) ; Rude, Vivien (CERN) ; Seidenbinder, Regis (CERN) ; Sosin, Mateusz (CERN) et al.
In order to optimize alignment activities in a highly radioactive environment, the Geodetic Metrology Group at CERN has developed a standardized featuring 6 degree of freedom (DoF) Universal Adjustment Platform (UAP). After a first prototyping phase in 2021 with a manual UAP, the design has been consolidated and is now compatible with the installation of motorized actuators to form a remotely adjustable 5-6 DoF platform able to perform positioning with micrometre resolution. Laboratory and beam-test performance study of a 55 μm pitch iLGAD sensor bonded to a Timepix3 readout chip / Svihra, Peter (CERN ; Prague, Inst. This contribution reports on characterisation results of a large-area (2 cm2) small pitch (55 μm) inverse Low-Gain Avalanche Detector (iLGAD), bonded to a Timepix3 readout chip. The ilGAD sensors were produced by Micron Semiconductor Ltd with the goal to obtain good gain uniformity and maximise the fill-factor -- an issue present with standard small-pitch LGAD designs. [...]
