New Generation Energy Extraction Systems for the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider Project at CERN
/ Panev, B I (CERN) ; Pojer, M (CERN) ; Mateos, F Rodriguez (CERN) ; Coelingh, G J (CERN) ; Grigorov, M (CERN) ; Georgakakis, S (CERN) ; Borkowski, P (Lodz, Tech. U.) ; Rodak, M (Lodz, Tech. U.) ; Sienicki, A (Lodz, Tech. U.) ; Wojcik, F (Lodz, Tech. U.)
A new, high-speed, and high-current DC switching technology based on commercial medium-voltage vacuum interrupters was explored and successfully validated for future use in the energy extraction systems (EES) to protect the superconducting magnet circuits at CERN. In the development process, two types of systems were produced, one rated for 2 kA and another for 600 A. [...]

A wireless method for beam coupling impedance bench measurement of resonant structures
/ Antuono, Chiara (CERN ; U. Rome La Sapienza (main)) ; Mostacci, Andrea (U. Rome La Sapienza (main)) ; Passarelli, Andrea (INFN, Naples) ; Zannini, Carlo (CERN) ; Masullo, Maria Rosaria (INFN, Naples) ; Migliorati, Mauro (U. Rome La Sapienza (main))
The Beam Coupling Impedance (BCI) is a crucial aspect in the realm of accelerator physics, as it describes the electromagnetic interactions between charged particle beams and the accelerator structure. The measurement and quantification of BCI is an essential requirement to assess and mitigate its impact, particularly when introducing new components or addressing problems within existing devices. Experimental confirmation of the impedance reduction campaign in the CERN SPS
/ Argyropoulos, Theodoros (CERN) ; Damerau, Heiko (CERN) ; Karpov, Ivan (CERN) ; Lasheen, Alexandre (CERN) ; Papotti, Giulia (CERN)
Measurements of the very long single bunch spectrum with RF off, were started in the SPS in 2012 to identify the main impedance sources responsible for both single and multi-bunch beam instabilities observed during operation. The impedance of the vacuum flanges with a strong peak at 1.4 GHz was identified and proven from simulations to limit the beam intensities required for the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). [...]

Comparison between self-consistent and non self-consistent space charge analysis for the evolution of the coherent direct space charge modes
/ Métral, Elias (CERN) ; Amorim, David (CERN) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN)
The question of the mitigation of the Transverse Mode Coupling Instability (TMCI) by space charge has been discussed for more than two decades. Since few years, it has become clear that the ABS model, which has been often used in the past and which assumes an air-bag bunch in a square well, is not sufficient to properly describe the complexity of the interaction between impedance and space charge. [...]

Test Results and Analysis of the MQYYM Magnet at 1.9 K in STAARQ, a New CEA Paris-Saclay Test Facility
/ Perraud, S (IRFU, Saclay) ; Allain, H (IRFU, Saclay) ; Boussuge, T (IRFU, Saclay) ; Commaux, N (IRFU, Saclay) ; Correia-Machado, R (IRFU, Saclay) ; Antoni, P De (IRFU, Saclay) ; Felice, H (IRFU, Saclay) ; Foussat, A (CERN) ; Gheller, J M (IRFU, Saclay) ; Guihard, Q (IRFU, Saclay) et al.
In the initial framework of HL-LHC project, a 90 mm Nb-Ti single aperture quadrupole short model with a gradient of 120 T/m at 1.9 K, has been designed, manufactured and firstly tested at 4.2 K as part of a collaboration between CERN and CEA. This magnet called MQYYM has been recently tested for the first time at 1.9 K and used as a reference magnet for the commissioning of the new CEA Paris-Saclay cryogenic test facility STAARQ (standing for test station for quadrupole accelerator magnets). Transient Behavior of the Second Fusillo Subscale Curved CCT Magnet
/ Wozniak, M (CERN) ; Devred, A (CERN) ; Ferriere, R (CERN) ; Haziot, A (CERN) ; Mangiarotti, F J (CERN) ; Kirby, G (CERN) ; Pentella, M (CERN) ; Petrone, C (CERN) ; Ravaioli, E (CERN) ; Verweij, A (CERN)
The Fusillo project at CERN aims to design and build a demonstrator magnet with multi-harmonic corrected fields in a 90°, curved, Canted-Cosine-Theta magnet. Two subscale magnets are built with 30° bending, about 1/30 of the demonstrator conductor length, and increased current to reach coil stresses equivalent to those of the demonstrator. [...]
