Human Level AI by 2030? (on-line) / Kaplan, Jared (speaker)
I will discuss recent AI progress and why it's plausible that AI systems will be better than humans at theoretical physics research by the end of the decade..

Lightcone Effective Hamiltonians and RG Flows / Fitzpatrick, A. Liam (Boston U.) ; Kaplan, Jared (Johns Hopkins U. ; Stanford U., ITP) ; Katz, Emanuel (Boston U.) ; Vitale, Lorenzo G. (Boston U.) ; Walters, Matthew T. (Boston U. ; CERN)
We present a prescription for an effective lightcone (LC) Hamiltonian that includes the effects of zero modes, focusing on the case of Conformal Field Theories (CFTs) deformed by relevant operators. We show how the prescription resolves a number of issues with LC quantization, including i) the apparent non-renormalization of the vacuum, ii) discrepancies in critical values of bare parameters in equal-time vs LC quantization, and iii) an inconsistency at large N in CFTs with simple AdS duals. Simplified Models for LHC New Physics Searches / Alves, Daniele (SLAC) ; Arkani-Hamed, Nima (ed.) (Princeton, Inst. Advanced Study) ; Arora, Sanjay (ed.) (Rutgers U., Piscataway) ; Bai, Yang (ed.) (Oregon U. ; UC, Davis) ; Cheng, Hsin-Chia (ed.) (UC, Davis) et al. /LHC New Physics Working Group
This document proposes a collection of simplified models relevant to the design of new-physics searches at the LHC and the characterization of their results. Both ATLAS and CMS have already presented some results in terms of simplified models, and we encourage them to continue and expand this effort, which supplements both signature-based results and benchmark model interpretations. Classical novae from the POINT-AGAPE microlensing survey of M31; 2 Rate and statistical characteristics of the nova population / Darnley, M J ; Bode, M F ; Kerins, E ; Newsam, A M ; An, J ; Baillon, Paul ; Belokurov, V ; Novati, S C ; Carr, B J ; Creze, M et al.
We report the results of our statistical study of the POINT-AGAPE CNe catalogue. The first Sloan $r'$ and $i'$ analysis of the MMRD relationship in M31 is performed using the resulting POINT-AGAPE CN catalogue. [...]

Absorptive corrections to the inclusive spectrum and the bare triple- Pomeron coupling / Capella, A ; Kaplan, J ; Trân Thanh Vân, Jean
Using the AKG cutting rules the authors compute the absorptive corrections to the inclusive pp to pX spectrum in the triple-Regge region. The absorption corrections are very large (much larger than in the elastic amplitude) and are quite sensitive to the t dependence of the triple-pomeron coupling on its 'third leg'. [...]

POINT-AGAPE Pixel Lensing Survey of M31 : Evidence for a MACHO contribution to Galactic Halos / Calchi Novati, Sebastiano ; Paulin-Henriksson, S. ; An, J. ; Baillon, P. ; Belokurov, V. ; Carr, Bernard J. ; Creze, M. ; Evans, N.W. ; Giraud-Heraud, Y. ; Gould, A. et al.
The POINT-AGAPE collaboration is carrying out a search for gravitational microlensing toward M31 to reveal galactic dark matter in the form of MACHOs (Massive Astrophysical Compact Halo Objects) in the halos of the Milky Way and M31. A high-threshold analysis of 3 years of data yields 6 bright, short--duration microlensing events, which are confronted to a simulation of the observations and the analysis. [...]

An automated search is carried out for microlensing events using a catalogue of 44554 variable superpixel lightcurves derived from our three-year monitoring program of M31. Each step of our candidate selection is objective and reproducible by a computer. [...]
