Advancements in experimental techniques for measuring dipole moments of short-lived particles at the LHC
/ Neri, N (INFN, Milan ; Milan U. ; CERN) ; Akiba, K (NIKHEF, Amsterdam) ; Alessio, F (CERN) ; Bandiera, L (INFN, Ferrara) ; Benettoni, M (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) ; Cai, R (CERN) ; Cardinale, R (Genoa U.) ; Cesare, S (INFN, Milan ; Milan U.) ; Citterio, M (INFN, Milan ; Milan U.) ; Coco, V (CERN) et al.
ALADDIN is a proposed fixed-target experiment at the LHC for the direct measurement of charm baryon dipole moments. The detector features a spectrometer and a Cherenkov detector, while the experimental technique is based on the phenomena of particle channelling and spin precession in bent crystals. [...]

We have observed a significant enhancement in the energy deposition by $25$--$100~\mathrm{GeV}$ photons in a $1~\mathrm{cm}$ thick tungsten crystal oriented along its $\langle 111 \rangle$ lattice axes. At $100~\mathrm{GeV}$, this enhancement, with respect to the value observed without axial alignment, is more than twofold. [...]

Limits on antiproton-nuclei annihilation cross sections at ∼125 keV

Some experimental limits on the annihilation cross sections $σ_{\textrm{ann}}$ of antiprotons on carbon, palladium, and platinum targets were determined at the previously unexplored kinetic energy region E≈125 keV. Information on $σ_{\textrm{ann}}$ at such low antiproton energies is important in understanding the dynamics of the annihilation process, and provides useful data for models that attempt to describe the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe by assuming the existence of islands of antimatter concentration..

An investigation on stochastic deflection of high-energy charged particles in a bent crystal was carried out. In particular, we investigated the deflection efficiency under axial confinement of both positively and negatively charged particles as a function of the crystal orientation, the choice of the bending plane, and of the charge sign. The experimental setup of the Interaction in Crystals for Emission of RADiation collaboration at Mainzer Mikrotron: Design, commissioning, and tests

Silicon/germanium flat/bent crystals are thin devices able to efficiently deflect charged particle GeV-energy beams up to a few hundreds of μrad; moreover, high intensity photons can be efficiently produced in the so-called Multi-Volume Reflection (MVR) and Multiple Volume Reflections in One Crystal (MVROC) conditions. In the last years, the research interest in this field has moved to the dynamic studies of light negative leptons in the low energy range: the possibility to deflect negative particles and to produce high intensity γ sources via the coherent interactions with crystals in the sub-GeV energy range has been proved by the ICE-RAD (Interaction in Crystals for Emission of RADiation) Collaboration at the MAinzer MIkrotron (MAMI, Germany).
