Beam performance and operational efficiency at the CERN Proton Synchrotron
/ Huschauer, Alexander (CERN) ; Coly, Marcel (CERN) ; Cotte, Denis (CERN) ; Damerau, Heiko (CERN) ; Delrieux, Marc (CERN) ; Dumont, Jean-Charles (CERN) ; Dutheil, Yann (CERN) ; Easton, Sandy (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Guerrero, Ana (CERN) et al.
The injectors for the LHC at CERN underwent a major upgrade during a recent two-year long shutdown in the framework of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project. Following this upgrade, the Proton Synchrotron (PS) was restarted in 2021, with the same beam quality as before the upgrade quickly achieved or surpassed. [...]

Experimental confirmation of the impedance reduction campaign in the CERN SPS
/ Argyropoulos, Theodoros (CERN) ; Damerau, Heiko (CERN) ; Karpov, Ivan (CERN) ; Lasheen, Alexandre (CERN) ; Papotti, Giulia (CERN)
Measurements of the very long single bunch spectrum with RF off, were started in the SPS in 2012 to identify the main impedance sources responsible for both single and multi-bunch beam instabilities observed during operation. The impedance of the vacuum flanges with a strong peak at 1.4 GHz was identified and proven from simulations to limit the beam intensities required for the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). [...]

Beam loading
/ Damerau, Heiko (speaker) (CERN)
Radio-frequency (RF) systems in particle accelerators are usually designed to transfer energy to the beam or to define its longitudinal structure. However, charged particles passing through an RF cavity induce a voltage which acts back on themselves and on subsequent particles. [...]

RF Feedbacks

Transverse Collective Effects studies for a Muon Collider

The International Muon Collider Collaboration (IMCC) is investigating the key challenges of a 10 TeV centre-of-mass muon collider ring, along with its injector complex and an intermediate 3 TeV collider stage. Muon and anti-muon bunches are produced via a proton driver complex and then undergo a process called 6D cooling [...]

RF Systems
/ Damerau, Heiko (speaker) (CERN)
Radio-frequency (RF) systems deliver the power to change the energy of a charged particle beam, and they are integral parts of linear and circular accelerators. A longitudinal electrical field in the direction of the beam is generated in a resonant structure, the RF cavity. [...]
