The Monitored Drift-Tube (MDT) chambers of the muon spectrometer of the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) reach a spatial resolution of 35 micons and almost 100% tracking e?ciency with 6 layers of 30 mm diameter drift tubes operated with Ar:CO2 (93:7) gas mixture at 3 bar and a gas gain of 20000. Performance of Drift-Tube Detectors at High Counting Rates for High-Luminosity LHC Upgrades / Bittner, Bernhard (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Dubbert, Joerg ; Kortner, Oliver ; Kroha, Hubert ; Manfredini, Alessandro ; Nowak, Sebastian ; Ott, Sebastian ; Richter, Robert ; Schwegler, Philipp ; Zanzi, Daniele et al.
The performance of pressurized drift-tube detectors at very high background rates has been studied at the Gamma Irradiation Facility (GIF) at CERN and in an intense 20 MeV proton beam at the Munich Van- der-Graaf tandem accelerator for applications in large-area precision muon tracking at high-luminosity upgrades of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The ATLAS muon drift-tube (MDT) chambers with 30 mm tube diameter have been designed to cope with γ and neutron background hit rates of up to 500 Hz/cm 2 [...]

The muon detectors of the experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have to cope with unprecedentedly high neutron and gamma ray background rates. In the forward regions of the muon spectrometer of the ATLAS detector, for instance, counting rates of 1.7 kHz/square cm are reached at the LHC design luminosity. [...]

Construction and Test of a Prototype Chamber for the Upgrade of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer / Bittner, B (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Dubbert, J (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Kroha, H (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Loeben, J v (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Schwegler, P (Munich, Max Planck Inst.)
Monitored drift tube chambers are used as precision tracking detectors in the muon spectrometer of the ATLAS experiment at the LHC at CERN. These chambers provide a spatial resolution of 35 μm and a tracking efficiency of close to 100% up to background rates of 0.5 kHz/cm 2 , the former being limited at higher rates mainly due to space-charge effects and the latter due to the maximum drift time of 700 ns. Jet energy measurement and its systematic uncertainty in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector / ATLAS Collaboration
The jet energy scale (JES) and its systematic uncertainty are determined for jets measured with the ATLAS detector using proton-proton collision data with a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb$^{-1}$. Jets are reconstructed from energy deposits forming topological clusters of calorimeter cells using the anti-k$_t$ algorithm with distance parameters $R=0.4$ or $R=0.6$, and are calibrated using MC simulations. Measurement of $\chi_{c1}$ and $\chi_{c2}$ production with $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV $pp$ collisions at ATLAS / ATLAS Collaboration
The prompt and non-prompt production cross-sections for the $\chi_{c1}$ and $\chi_{c2}$ charmonium states are measured in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using 4.5 fb-1 of integrated luminosity. The $\chi_{c}$ states are reconstructed through the radiative decay $\chi_{c}\rightarrow J/\psi\,\gamma$ (with $J/\psi\rightarrow\mu^{+}\mu^{-}$) where photons are reconstructed from $\gamma\rightarrow e^{+}e^{-}$ conversions. Muon reconstruction efficiency and momentum resolution of the ATLAS experiment in proton–proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV in 2010 / ATLAS Collaboration
This paper presents a study of the performance of the muon reconstruction in the analysis of proton--proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV at the LHC, recorded by the ATLAS detector in 2010. This performance is described in terms of reconstruction and isolation efficiencies and momentum resolutions for different classes of reconstructed muons. [...]

The differential production cross section of the $\phi$(1020) meson in $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV pp collisions measured with the ATLAS Detector / ATLAS Collaboration
A measurement is presented of the $\phi ➝ K^+K^−$ production cross section at √s = 7 TeV using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 383 μb$^{−1}$ collected with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Selection of $\phi$(1020) mesons is based on the identification of charged kaons by their energy loss in the pixel detector. [...]

Search for invisible decays of a Higgs boson produced in association with a Z boson in ATLAS / ATLAS Collaboration
A search for evidence of invisible-particle decay modes of a Higgs boson produced in association with a Z boson at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. No deviation from the Standard Model expectation is observed in 4.5 fb$^{−1}$ (20.3 fb$^{−1}$) of 7 (8) TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment. [...]

Measurement of the production cross-section of prompt J/$\psi$ mesons in association with a W± boson in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector / ATLAS Collaboration
The process $pp \to W^{\pm} J/\psi$ provides a powerful probe of the production mechanism of charmonium in hadronic collisions, and is also sensitive to multiple parton interactions in the colliding protons. Using the 2011 ATLAS dataset of 4.5 fb-1 of $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV pp collisions at the LHC, the first observation is made of the production of $W^{\pm}$ + prompt $J/\psi$ events in hadronic collisions, using $W^{\pm} \to \mu\nu_{\mu}$ and $J/\psi \to \mu^+\mu^-$.
