Continuous position estimation for the full remote alignment system of the High Luminosity LHC upgrade / Gutekunst, Juergen (CERN) ; Klumb, Francis (CERN) ; Kautzmann, Guillaume (CERN) ; Durand, Helene Mainaud (CERN) ; Sosin, Mateusz (CERN)
The Full Remote Alignment System (FRAS) is an alignment system remotely controlled and monitored that comprises almost one thousand permanent sensors distributed along the 200 meters of equipment that will be installed in the frame of the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project on either side of the ATLAS and CMS detectors. The sensors, along with their electronics and a system of motorized actuators, will be used to adjust the relative positions of the components remotely, in real time, with no human intervention needed in the irradiated environment of the tunnel. Protection Layers Design for the High Luminosity LHC Full Remote Alignment System / Fernández Adiego, Borja (CERN) ; Blanco Viñuela, Enrique (CERN) ; Germinario, Andrea (CERN) ; Mainaud Durand, Helene (CERN) ; Sosin, Mateusz (CERN)
The Full Remote Alignment System (FRAS) is a complex measurement, alignment and control system designed to remotely align components of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) following its High Luminosity upgrade. The purpose of FRAS is to guarantee optimal alignment of the strong focusing magnets and associated components near the experimental interaction points, while at the same time limiting the radiation dose to which surveyors in the LHC tunnel are subjected. Frequency scanning interferometry based deformation monitoring system for the alignment of the FCC-ee machine detector interface / Watrelot, Léonard (CERN) ; Sosin, Mateusz (CERN) ; Durand, Stéphane (Unlisted, FR)
In a particle accelerator, two particle beams are accelerated and collided at one or several physics detectors. The machine detector interface (MDI) is the place where the accelerator ring is linked to the physics detector. [...]

REMOTE: Geodetic metrology for future accelerators - Facing the future challenges in the domain of accelerator alignment / Sosin, Mateusz (speaker) (CERN) ; Gayde, Jean-Christophe (speaker) (CERN)
Abstract In particle accelerators, high radiation levels, ultra-high vacuum, cryogenic temperatures of the measured components and high electro-magnetic noise push accelerator surveyors to look for more robust, safe and accurate solutions of alignment. For example, for the High-Luminosity LHC project at CERN, a range of new and cost-optimized solutions using Fourier analysis-based Frequency Sweeping Interferometry (FSI) and capacitive technologies are under development. Robust Optical Instrumentation for Accelerator Alignment Using Frequency Scanning Interferometry / Sosin, Mateusz (CERN) ; Mainaud Durand, Helene (CERN) ; Micolon, Frederic (CERN) ; Rude, Vivien (CERN) ; Rutkowski, Jaroslaw M (CERN)
The precise alignment of components inside particle accelerators is an important engineering challenge in high-energy physics. Optical interferometry, being a precise, optical distance measurement technique, is often a method of choice in such applications. [...]

Mechanical Consolidation of the LHC Inner Triplet Magnet Supporting System for Remote Alignment / Micolon, Frederic (CERN) ; Bourcey, Nicolas (CERN) ; Deschamps, Jean-Baptiste (CERN) ; Herty, Andreas (CERN) ; Le Naour, Sandrine (CERN) ; Mikkola, Tommi (CERN) ; Parma, Vittorio (CERN) ; Ramos, Delio (CERN) ; Rude, Vivien (CERN) ; Sosin, Mateusz (CERN)
Given the high radiation area and the tight alignment tolerances, the LHC inner triplet magnets were designed to be realigned remotely using motorized supporting jacks. However, during run 2 the LHC triplet realignment system started to show an unexpected behavior with erratic load variations on the magnet supporting jacks when operated [...]

Design of High-Precision lifting system for the HL-LHC Heavy Components in the interaction region / Micolon, Frederic (CERN) ; Sosin, Mateusz (CERN)
Given the high radiation level and the tight alignment tolerances, the HL-LHC interaction region components are designed to be realigned remotely using motorized supporting jacks, as human interventions in these zones must be limited to the strict minimum. A position adjustment system will allow a vertical and horizontal displacement of each jack support by at least +/- 2.5 mm with a resolution of less than 10 μm [...]
