Multi-objective extremum seeking to control drifts in the transverse beam splitting efficiency of the multi-turn extraction at the CERN proton synchrotron / Uden, Cédric (CERN) ; Huschauer, Alexander (CERN) ; Pahl, Hannes (CERN) ; Schenk, Michael (CERN) ; Madysa, Nico (CERN) ; Kain, Verena (CERN)
Time-varying fluctuations of the intensity sharing between the islands and the core of the beam extracted via the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS) Multi-Turn Extraction are the main effects that require manual adjustment for this beam type. To mitigate this, the application of an online controller is explored to further enhance both operational autonomy of the accelerator and physics performance. [...]

Electron gun producing beams with controllable current density / Pikin, Alexander (CERN ; Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Bencini, Vittorio (CERN) ; Pahl, Hannes (CERN ; Heidelberg U.) ; Wenander, Fredrik (CERN)
The existing Brillouin-type electron gun at the TwinEBIS test bench is, according to Herrmann theory, capable of producing an electron beam with a current density of 3850 A/cm$^{2}$ in the 2 T solenoid. To control the electron beam current density and the magnetic flux inside the beam, the existing electron gun - now using purely electrostatic focusing - can be modified by permitting magnetic flux to reach the cathode. Challenges in $^{11}$C charge breeding / Pitters, J (CERN) ; Breitenfeldt, M (ADAM, Geneva) ; Pahl, H (CERN ; Heidelberg U.) ; Pikin, A (CERN ; Manchester U.) ; Wenander, F (CERN)
In this paper we discuss the possibilities of using a charge breeding scheme based on an Electron Beam Ion Source for beam preparation of a radioactive $^{11}$ C beam for hadron therapy. Test measurements under extreme operating conditions were conducted at the REX-ISOLDE facility to explore the limitations of the charge breeder for high-intensity, low-repetition-rate, molecular CO $^{+}$ beams. High Frequency RFQ Design and LEBT Matching for the CERN TwinEBIS Ion Source / Bencini, Vittorio (CERN) ; Breitenfeldt, Martin (CERN) ; Lallement, Jean-Baptiste (CERN) ; Lombardi, Alessandra (CERN) ; Pahl, Hannes (CERN) ; Pikin, Alexander (CERN) ; Pitters, Johanna (CERN) ; Wenander, Fredrik (CERN)
An Electron Beam Ion Source (EBIS) is being developed at CERN for production of highly charged ions, for instance fully stripped $^{12}$C. The focus has so far been on the electron gun design, aiming for a high current compression, which results in a rapid ionisation process and thereby high repetition rate. [...]

Pepperpot emittance measurements of ion beams from an electron beam ion source / Pitters, J (CERN) ; Breitenfeldt, M (CERN) ; Duarte Pinto, S (PHOTONIS) ; Pahl, H (CERN ; U. Heidelberg (main)) ; Pikin, A (CERN ; Manchester U.) ; Shornikov, A (CERN ; High Voltage Engineering Europa B.V.,) ; Wenander, F (CERN)
A pepperpot emittance meter was used to measure the transverse emittance of multiply charged beams from REXEBIS, an Electron Beam Ion Source (EBIS) used for charge breeding of radioactive ion beams. The emittance meter is equipped with a Micro Channel Plate (MCP), a phosphor screen and a CCD camera for detection of the ion signal. [...]

A low energy ion beamline for TwinEBIS / Pahl, H (CERN ; Heidelberg U.) ; Bencini, V (CERN ; INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) ; Breitenfeldt, M (CERN ; ADAM, Geneva) ; Granadeiro Costa, A R (CERN ; IST, Lisbon (main)) ; Pikin, A (CERN ; Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Pitters, J (CERN) ; Wenander, F (CERN)
A low energy beamline has been designed for the TwinEBIS setup. The beamline will be used to transport ions extracted from the electron beam ion source into an accelerating radio frequency quadrupole or into secondary devices, like a time of flight-mass spectrometer, attached to the beamline via a fast three way 20° ion switchyard.
