Performance of the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter in pp collisions at $ \sqrt{s}= $ 13 TeV
/ CMS Collaboration
The operation and performance of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) are presented, based on data collected in pp collisions at $ \sqrt{s}= $ 13 TeV at the CERN LHC, in the years from 2015 to 2018 (LHC Run 2), corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 151 fb$ ^{-1} $. The CMS ECAL is a scintillating lead-tungstate crystal calorimeter, with a silicon strip preshower detector in the forward region that provides precise measurements of the energy and the time-of-arrival of electrons and photons. The aim of this work has been to improve the time resolution of radiation detectors for future high-energy physics experiments and medical imaging applications. Cedoped oxyorthosilicate Lu$_2$SiO$_5$:Ce (LSO) and mixed oxyorthosilicate Lu$_{1.6}$Y$_{0.4}$SiO$_5$:Ce (LYSO) have been investigated as prospective scintillators for such high-timeresolution applications. Tech., Moscow) ; Guz, I (Serpukhov, IHEP) ; Jacobsson, R (CERN) ; Korzhik, M (Kurchatov Inst., Moscow ; Minsk, Inst. Nucl. Problems) ; Mechinsky, V (Kurchatov Inst., Moscow ; Minsk, Inst. Nucl. Performance parameters of a composite detection module of Spaghetti type Calorimeter (SPACAL), which is considered for the inner part of the future LHCb Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL) in Upgrade Phase 2, are simulated using GEANT4 software supported by analytical calculations. The accuracy of the timestamp is estimated in both the front and back sections of the composite detector, whereas the energy resolution is estimated for the total signal from the front and back sections of the detector. Beam test evaluation of electromagnetic calorimeter modules made from proton-damaged PbWO$_4$ crystals
/ Adams, T (Florida State U., Tallahassee (main)) ; Adzic, P (Belgrade U.) ; Ahuja, S (Sao Paulo, IFT) ; Anderson, D (Caltech) ; Andrews, M B (Carnegie Mellon U.) ; Antropov, I (Ecole Polytechnique) ; Antunovic, Z (Split U.) ; Arcidiacono, R (INFN, Turin ; Moscow, ITEP) ; Arenton, M W (Virginia U.) ; Argiro, S (INFN, Turin ; Moscow, ITEP) et al.
The performance of electromagnetic calorimeter modules made of proton-irradiated PbWO(4) crystals has been studied in beam tests. The modules, similar to those used in the Endcaps of the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL), were formed from 5×5 matrices of PbWO(4) crystals, which had previously been exposed to 24 GeV protons up to integrated fluences between 2.1× 10(13) and 1.3× 10(14) cm(−)(2).
