Unified Halo-Independent Formalism Derived From Convex Hulls / Gelmini, Graciela B. (UCLA) ; Huh, Ji-Haeng (CERN) ; Witte, Samuel J. (Valencia U., IFIC ; UCLA)
Using the Fenchel-Eggleston theorem for convex hulls (an extension of the Caratheodory theorem), we prove that any likelihood can be maximized by either a dark matter 1- speed distribution $F(v)$ in Earth's frame or 2- Galactic velocity distribution $f^{\rm gal}(\vec{u})$, consisting of a sum of delta functions. The former case applies only to time-averaged rate measurements and the maximum number of delta functions is $({\mathcal N}-1)$, where ${\mathcal N}$ is the total number of data entries. [...]

Assessing Compatibility of Direct Detection Data: Halo-Independent Global Likelihood Analyses / Gelmini, Graciela B. (UCLA) ; Huh, Ji-Haeng (CERN) ; Witte, Samuel J. (UCLA)
We present two different halo-independent methods utilizing a global maximum likelihood that can assess the compatibility of dark matter direct detection data given a particular dark matter model. The global likelihood we use is comprised of at least one extended likelihood and an arbitrary number of Poisson or Gaussian likelihoods. [...]

Experimental relevance of low reheating temperature cosmologies / Gelmini, Graciela B. (UCLA ; CERN)
Standard simple assumptions are usually made about the pre-Big Bang Nucleosynthesis epoch, from which we do not have observations. Modifying these assumptions, the predicted density of relic particles such as neutralinos and sterile neutrinos can be very different from that in the standard case. [...]

Ultra-cold WIMPs: relics of non-standard pre-BBN cosmologies / Gelmini, Graciela B. (UCLA) ; Gondolo, Paolo (Utah U.)
Weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) constitute one of very few probes of cosmology before big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). We point out that in scenarios in which the Universe evolves in a non-standard manner during and after WIMP kinetic decoupling, the horizon mass scale at decoupling can be smaller and the dark matter WIMPs can be colder than in standard cosmology. Composition of UHECR and the Pierre Auger Observatory Spectrum / Arisaka, Katsushi (UCLA, Los Angeles, CA, USA) ; Gelmini, Graciela B (UCLA, Los Angeles, CA, USA ; CERN) ; Healy, Matthew (UCLA, Los Angeles, CA, USA) ; Kalashev, Oleg (INR RAS, Moscow, Russia) ; Lee, Joong (UCLA, Los Angeles, CA, USA)
We fit the recently published Pierre Auger ultra-high energy cosmic ray spectrum assuming that either nucleons or nuclei are emitted at the sources. We consider the simplified cases of pure proton, or pure oxygen, or pure iron injection. [...]

Bounds on Relic Neutrino Masses in the Z-burst Model / Gelmini, Graciela B (Dep. of Phys. and Astronomy, UCLA Los Angeles) ; Varieschi, Gabriele (Dep. of Phys., Loyola Marymount Univ., Los Angeles) ; Weiler, Thomas (Dep. of Phys., Vanderbilt Univ., Nashville ; CERN)
Neutrinos from far-away sources annihilating at the Z resonance on relic neutrinos may give origin to the extreme-energy cosmic rays (EECR). If ``Z-bursts'' are responsible for the EECR events, then we show that the non-observation of cosmic ray events at energies above 2 x 10^20 eV by the AGASA Collaboration implies a lower bound around 0.3 eV on the relic neutrino mass.
