Measurement of the charge asymmetry of electrons from the decays of $W$ bosons produced in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV / CDF Collaboration
At the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton ($p\bar{p}$) collider, high-mass electron-neutrino ($e\nu$) pairs are produced predominantly in the process $p \bar{p} \rightarrow W(\rightarrow e\nu) + X$. The asymmetry of the electron and positron yield as a function of their pseudorapidity constrain the slope of the ratio of the $u$- to $d$-quark parton distributions versus the fraction of the proton momentum carried by the quarks. A Study of the Energy Dependence of the Underlying Event in Proton-Antiproton Collisions / for the CDF Collaboration
We study charged particle production in proton-antiproton collisions at 300 GeV, 900 GeV, and 1.96 TeV. We use the direction of the charged particle with the largest transverse momentum in each event to define three regions of eta-phi space; toward, away, and transverse. [...]

A precise measurement of the $W$-boson mass with the Collider Detector at Fermilab / Aaltonen, Timo Antero (Helsinki U. ; Helsinki Inst. of Phys.) ; Amerio, Silvia (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) ; Amidei, Dante E (Michigan U.) ; Anastassov, Anton Iankov (Fermilab ; Northwestern U.) ; Annovi, Alberto (Frascati) ; Antos, Jaroslav (Comenius U. ; Kosice, IEF) ; Apollinari, Giorgio (Fermilab) ; Appel, Jeffrey A (Fermilab) ; Arisawa, Tetsuo (Waseda U.) ; Artikov, Akram Muzafarovich (Dubna, JINR) et al. /R. C. Group
We present a measurement of the $W$-boson mass, $M_W$, using data corresponding to 2.2/fb of integrated luminosity collected in ppbar collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 1.96 TeV with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The selected sample of 470126 $W\to e\nu$ candidates and 624708 $W\to\mu\nu$ candidates yields the measurement $M_W = 80387\pm 12$ (stat) $\pm 15$ (syst)$ = 80387 \pm 19$ MeV$/c^2$ . [...]

Study of orbitally excited $B$ mesons and evidence for a new $B\pi$ resonance / Aaltonen, Timo Antero (Helsinki U. ; Helsinki Inst. of Phys.) ; Amerio, Silvia (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) ; Amidei, Dante E (Michigan U.) ; Anastassov, Anton Iankov (Fermilab ; Northwestern U.) ; Annovi, Alberto (Frascati) ; Antos, Jaroslav (Comenius U. ; Kosice, IEF) ; Apollinari, Giorgio (Fermilab) ; Appel, Jeffrey A (Fermilab) ; Arisawa, Tetsuo (Waseda U.) ; Artikov, Akram Muzafarovich (Dubna, JINR) et al. /R. C. Group
Using the full CDF Run II data sample, we report evidence for a new resonance, which we refer to as B(5970), found simultaneously in the $B^0\pi^+$ and $B^+\pi^-$ mass distributions with a significance of 4.4 standard deviations. We further report the first study of resonances consistent with orbitally excited $B^{+}$ mesons and an updated measurement of the properties of orbitally excited $B^0$ and $B_s^0$ mesons. [...]

Exclusion of exotic top-like quarks with -4/3 electric charge using jet-charge tagging in single-lepton ttbar events at CDF / Aaltonen, T. (Helsinki Inst. of Phys.) ; Amerio, S. (INFN, Padua) ; Amidei, D. (Michigan U.) ; Anastassov, A. (Fermilab ; Northwestern U.) ; Annovi, A. (Frascati) ; Antos, J. (Comenius U.) ; Apollinari, G. (Fermilab) ; Appel, J.A. (Fermilab) ; Arisawa, T. (Waseda U.) ; Artikov, A. (Dubna, JINR) et al. /R. C. Group
We report on a measurement of the top-quark electric charge in ttbar events in which one W boson originating from the top-quark pair decays into leptons and the other into hadrons. The event sample was collected by the CDF II detector in sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV proton-antiproton collisions and corresponds to 5.6 fb^(-1). [...]

Position Measurements with Micro-Channel Plates and Transmission lines using Pico-second Timing and Waveform Analysis / Adamsa, Bernhard (Argonne) ; Attenkofer, Klaus (Argonne) ; Bogdan, Mircea (Chicago U.) ; Byrum, Karen (Argonne) ; Genat, Jean-Francois C (Chicago U.) ; Grabas, Herve (Ecole Superieure dElectricite, Gif-sur-Yvette) ; Frisch, Henry J (Chicago U.) ; Kim, Heejong (Chicago U.) ; Heintz, Mary K (Chicago U.) ; Natoli, Tyler (Chicago U.) et al.
The anodes of Micro-Channel Plate devices are coupled to fast transmission lines in order to reduce the number of electronics readout channels, and can provide two-dimension position measurements using two-ends delay timing. Tests with a laser and digital waveform analysis show that resolutions of a few hundreds of microns along the transmission line can be reached taking advantage of a few pico-second timing estimation. Transmission-Line Readout with Good Time and Space Resolutions for Planacon MCP-PMTs / Tang, F (Chicago U., EFI) ; Anderson, J (Argonne) ; Byrum, K (Argonne) ; Drake, G (Argonne) ; Ertley, C (Chicago U., EFI) ; Frisch, H (Chicago U., EFI) ; Genat, J-F (Chicago U., EFI) ; May, E (Argonne)
With commercially-available multi-anode microchannel plate photomultiplier tubes (MCP-PMT) and electronics, resolutions significantly better than 10 psec have been achieved in small systems with a few readout channels[1,2]. For large-scale time-of-flight systems used in particle physics, which may cover tens of square meters, a solution must be found with a manageable number of electronics channels and low total power consumption on the readout electronics without degrading the system timing resolution. Level-3 Calorimetric Resolution available for the Level-1 and Level-2 CDF Triggers / CDF Collaboration
As the Tevatron luminosity increases sophisticated selections are required to be efficient in selecting rare events among a very huge background. To cope with this problem, CDF has pushed the offline calorimeter algorithm reconstruction resolution up to Level 2 and, when possible, even up to Level 1, increasing efficiency and, at the same time, keeping under control the rates.
