A collaboration between DESY, PSI and CERN has been established to develop and build an advanced modular X- band transverse deflection structure (TDS) system with the new feature of providing variable polarization of the deflecting force. The prototype of the novel X-band TDS, the Polarizable X-band (PolariX) TDS, was fabricated at PSI following the high-precision tuning-free production process developed for the C-band Linac of the SwissFEL project. Sub-Femtosecond Time-Resolved Measurements Based on a Variable Polarization X-Band Transverse Deflecting Structures for SwissFEL
/ Craievich, Paolo (PSI, Villigen) ; Aßmann, Ralph (DESY) ; Bopp, Markus (PSI, Villigen) ; Braun, Hans-Heinrich (PSI, Villigen) ; Catalán Lasheras, Nuria (CERN) ; Christie, Florian (DESY) ; D'Arcy, Richard (DESY) ; Ganter, Romain (PSI, Villigen) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; Marchetti, Barbara (DESY) et al.
The SwissFEL project, under commissioning at the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI), will produce FEL radiation for soft and hard X-rays with pulse durations ranging from a few to several tens of femtoseconds. A collaboration between DESY, PSI and CERN has been established with the aim of developing and building an advanced X-Band transverse deflector structure (TDS) with the new feature of providing variable polarization of the deflecting force. Status of the Polarix-TDS Project

A collaboration between DESY, PSI and CERN has been established to develop and build an advanced modular X-band transverse deflection structure (TDS) system with the new feature of providing variable polarization of the deflecting force. This innovative CERN design requires very high manufacturing precision to guarantee highest azimuthal symmetry of the structure to avoid the deterioration of the polarization of the streaking field. The Horizon 2020 Project EuPRAXIA ('European Plasma Research Accelerator with eXcellence In Applications') aims at producing a design report of a highly compact and cost-effective European facility with multi-GeV electron beams using plasma as the acceleration medium. The accelerator facility will be based on a laser and/or a beam driven plasma acceleration approach and will be used for photon science, high-energy physics (HEP) detector tests, and other applications such as compact X-ray sources for medical imaging or material processing. Simulations of Electron-Proton Beam Interaction before Plasma in the AWAKE Experiment
/ Dorda, Ulrich (DESY) ; Aßmann, Ralph (DESY) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Grebenyuk, Julia (DESY) ; Petrenko, Alexey (CERN) ; Schmidt, Janet (CERN)
The on-axis injection of electron bunches in the proton-driven plasma wake at the AWAKE experiment at CERN implies co-propagation of a low-energy electron beam with the long high-energy proton beam in a common beam pipe over several meters upstream of the plasma chamber. The possible effects of the proton-induced wakefields on the electron bunch phase space in the common beam pipe region may have crucial implications for subsequent electron trapping and acceleration in plasma. Beam feasibility study of a collimator with in-jaw beam position monitors

At present, the beam-based alignment of the LHC collimators is performed by touching the beam halo with both jaws of each collimator. This method requires dedicated fills at low intensities that are done infrequently and makes this procedure time consuming. [...]
