The high-luminosity phase of operation of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) will pose new challenges to the detectors and their readout electronics. In particular, the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) barrel electromagnetic calorimeter will require a full redesign of the electronic readout chain in order to cope with the increase in luminosity and trigger rate. Calorimeter prototyping for the iMPACT project pCT scanner
/ Pozzobon, Nicola (INFN, Padua) ; Baruffaldi, Filippo (INFN, Padua) ; Bisello, Dario (INFN, Padua) ; Bonini, Chiara (INFN, Padua) ; Di Ruzza, Benedetto (TIFPA-INFN, Trento) ; Giubilato, Piero (INFN, Padua) ; Mattiazzo, Serena (INFN, Padua) ; Pantano, Devis (INFN, Padua) ; Silvestrin, Luca (INFN, Padua) ; Snoeys, Walter (CERN) et al.
The iMPACT project aims at building a novel pCT scanner for protons of medical energies in the range between 200 and 300 MeV, a proton tracking system that provides accurate information to create a map of the tissue density of human organs. Such information is crucial for an accurate aiming of proton-therapy beams and is currently provided by X-rays CT scans, with an accuracy lower than the one which could be achieved by using protons. CMOS sensors in 90 nm fabricated on high resistivity wafers: Design concept and irradiation results
/ Rivetti, A (INFN, Turin) ; Caselle, M (CERN) ; Wyss, J (INFN, Padua ; Cassino U.) ; Bisello, D (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) ; Costa, M (INFN, Turin ; Turin U. The LePix project aims at improving the radiation hardness and the readout speed of monolithic CMOS sensors through the use of standard CMOS technologies fabricated on high resistivity substrates. In this context, high resistivity means beyond 400 Omega cm, which is at least one order of magnitude greater than the typical value (1-10 Omega cm) adopted for integrated circuit production [...]

We present a monolithic pixel sensor developed in the framework of the LePIX project aimed at tracking/triggering tasks where high granularity, low power consumption, material budget, radiation hardness and production costs are a concern. The detector is built in a 90nm CMOS process on a substrate of moderate resistivity. [...]
