Variations in the charge radii of indium isotopes between $N$ = 52 and 82 / CRIS-ISOLDE Collaboration
Measurements of the 5$\mathrm{p}$ $^2P_{3/2}$ $\to$ $9_s$ $^2 S_{1/2}$ and 5$\mathrm{p}$ $^2P_{1/2}$ $\to$ $8_s$ $^2 S_{1/2}$ transitions in the indium atom, combined with new atomic physics calculations, were used to extract the changes in mean-square nuclear charge radii, $\delta$($r^2$), of the indium (Z = 49) isotopes $^{101-111}$In, $^{113-123}$In, and $^{125-131}$In. With a proton hole in the closed nuclear shell of Z = 50, indium provides a detailed study of the effect of unpaired nucleons adjacent to the proton-shell closure, allowing investigation into the charge radii for isotopes between the two major neutron-shell closures at N = 50 and N = 82. Electromagnetic properties of indium isotopes illuminate the doubly magic character of $^{100}$Sn / Karthein, J. (MIT) ; Ricketts, C.M. (Manchester U.) ; Garcia Ruiz, R.F. (MIT ; Manchester U. ; CERN) ; Billowes, J. (Manchester U.) ; Binnersley, C.L. (Manchester U.) ; Cocolios, T.E. (Leuven U.) ; Dobaczewski, J. (York U., England ; Warsaw U.) ; Farooq-Smith, G.J. (Leuven U.) ; Flanagan, K.T. (Manchester U.) ; Georgiev, G. (IJCLab, Orsay) et al.
Our understanding of nuclear properties in the vicinity of $^{100}$Sn, suggested to be the heaviest doubly magic nucleus with equal numbers of protons (Z=50) and neutrons (N=50), has been a long-standing challenge for experimental and theoretical nuclear physics. Contradictory experimental evidence exists on the role of nuclear collectivity in this region of the nuclear chart. [...]

This paper presents high-precision spectroscopic measurements of atomic tin using five different resonanceionization schemes performed with the collinear resonance-ionization spectroscopy technique. Isotope shifts were measured for the stable tin isotopes from the $5s^2 5p^2$ $^3P_{0,1,2}$ and $^1S_0$ to the $5s^2 5p6s ^1P_1, ^3P_{1,2}$ and $5s^2 5p7s^1 P_1$ atomic levels. [...]

Isotope Shifts of Radium Monofluoride Molecules / Udrescu, S.M. (MIT) ; Brinson, A.J. (MIT) ; Ruiz, R.F. Garcia (MIT ; CERN) ; Gaul, K. (Philipps U. Marburg) ; Berger, R. (Philipps U. Isotope shifts of $^{223-226,228}$Ra$^{19}$F were measured for different vibrational levels in the electronic transition $A^{2}{}{\Pi}_{1/2}\leftarrow X^{2}{}{\Sigma}^{+}$. The observed isotope shifts demonstrate the particularly high sensitivity of radium monofluoride to nuclear size effects, offering a stringent test of models describing the electronic density within the radium nucleus. Charge radii of exotic potassium isotopes challenge nuclear theory and the magic character of $N = 32$ / Koszorús, Á. (Leuven U.) ; Yang, X.F. (Peking U., SKLNPT) ; Jiang, W.G. (U. Tennessee, Knoxville ; Oak Ridge ; Chalmers U. Tech.) ; Novario, S.J. (U. Tennessee, Knoxville ; Oak Ridge) ; Bai, S.W. (Peking U., SKLNPT) ; Billowes, J. (Manchester U.) ; Binnersley, C.L. (Manchester U.) ; Bissell, M.L. (Manchester U.) ; Cocolios, T.E. (Leuven U.) ; Cooper, B.S. (Manchester U.) et al.
Nuclear charge radii are sensitive probes of different aspects of the nucleon-nucleon interaction and the bulk properties of nuclear matter; thus, they provide a stringent test and challenge for nuclear theory. The calcium region has been of particular interest, as experimental evidence has suggested a new magic number at $N = 32$ [1-3], while the unexpectedly large increases in the charge radii [4,5] open new questions about the evolution of nuclear size in neutron-rich systems. This work reports on the application of a novel electric field-ionization setup for high-resolution laser spectroscopy measurements on bunched fast atomic beams in a collinear geometry. In combination with multi-step resonant excitation to Rydberg states using pulsed lasers, the field ionization technique demonstrates increased sensitivity for isotope separation and measurement of atomic parameters over previous non-resonant laser ionization methods.
