The concept of crystal collimation exploits the peculiar properties of crystalline materials to deflect high-energy beam particles at angles orders of magnitude larger than what can be achieved with scattering by conventional materials used as primary collimators. The betatron collimators in IR7 constitute the backbone of the collimation system of the LHC. A fraction of the secondary halo protons or heavy-ion fragments, scattered out of the primary collimator, is not captured by the secondary collimators but hits cold magnets in the IR7 dispersion suppressor (DS) where the dispersion starts to increase.
