Scandium thermal release from activated natTi and natV target materials in mixed particle fields: Investigation of parameters relevant for isotope mass separation
/ Mamis, E (CERN ; Latvia U.) ; Kalnina, P (CERN ; Latvia U.) ; Duchemin, C (CERN) ; Lambert, L (CERN) ; Conan, N (CERN) ; Deschamps, M (CERN) ; Dorsival, A (CERN) ; Froeschl, R (CERN) ; Ruiz, F Ogallar (CERN) ; Theis, C (CERN) et al.
Scandium (Sc) has gained significant interest in nuclear medicine due to its 43Sc, 44g/mSc, and 47Sc radioactive isotopes being suitable for cancer diagnostics and therapy, offering a promising avenue for theranostics. Various production methods, including irradiation of enriched or naturally abundant calcium (Ca), titanium (Ti), and vanadium (V) materials with different particle beams, have been investigated to produce 43Sc, 44g/mSc, and 47Sc. SPS slow extraction losses and activation: update on recent improvements
/ Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Balhan, Bruno (CERN) ; Barna, Daniel (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Bernhard, Johannes (CERN) ; Bertone, Caterina (CERN) ; Björkman, Daniel (CERN) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Brugger, Markus (CERN) ; Brunner, Kristóf (Wigner RCP, Budapest) et al.
Annual high intensity requests of over $1 \times 10^{19}$ protons on target (POT) from the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) Fixed Target (FT) physics program continue, with the prospect of requests for even higher, unprecedented levels in the coming decade. A concerted and multifaceted R&D; effort has been launched to understand and reduce the slow extraction induced radioactivation of the SPS and to anticipate future experimental proposals, such as SHiP [1] at the SPS Beam Dump Facility (BDF) [2], which will request an additional $4 \times 10^{19}$ POT per year. SPS Slow Extraction Losses and Activation: Challenges and Possibilities for Improvement

In 2015 the highest integrated number of protons in the history of the North Area was slow extracted from the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) for the Fixed Target physics programme. At well over 1.10¹⁹ protons on target (POT), this represented the highest annual figure at SPS for almost two decades, since the West Area Neutrino Facility was operational some 20 years ago. [...]

First Year of Operations in the HiRadMat Irradiation Facility at CERN
/ Fabich, A (CERN) ; Charitonidis, N (CERN) ; Conan, N (CERN) ; Cornelis, K (CERN) ; De Paoli, D (CERN) ; Efthymiopoulos, I (CERN) ; Evrard, S (CERN) ; Gaillard, H (CERN) ; Grenard, J L (CERN) ; Lazzaroni, M (CERN) et al.
The HiRadMat facility [1] is designed to provide a test area where the effect of high-intensity pulsed beams on materials or accelerator component assemblies can be studied. The facility is not designed for long-term irradiation studies but rather for single pulse experiments to study the onset of material damage. [...]

The High Radiation to Materials facility (HiRadMat) is a new experimental area at CERN, for studies of the impact of high-intensity pulsed beams on accelerator components and materials. The beam is delivered from the SPS by a new primary beam line, which has been constructed during the 2010/11 winter technical stop. [...]
