Phase transitions in a non-perturbative regime can be studied by ab initio Lattice Field Theory methods. The status and future research directions for LFT investigations of Quantum Chromo-Dynamics under extreme conditions are reviewed, including properties of hadrons and of the hypothesized QCD axion as inferred from QCD topology in different phases. Open heavy flavour production in heavy ion collisions
/ aichelin, joerg (speaker) (Subatech/CNRS)
Heavy flavor observables provide valuable information on the properties of the hot and dense quark gluon plasma (QGP) created in ultrarelativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions. Various microscopic models have successfully described many of the observables associated with its formation [...]

What pions can tell us about the neutron skin of nuclei
/ Hartnack, Christoph (SUBATECH, Nantes ; Nantes U.) ; Fèvre, Arnaud Le (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Leifels, Yvonne (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Aichelin, Jörg (SUBATECH, Nantes ; Nantes U.)
We use the Isospin Quantum Molecular Dynamics approach to analyse the isospin
ratios of pion production in collisions of heavy ions at incident energies below
2 AGeV. It is found that the comparison of the centrality dependence at
different energies allows to gain information on the neutron skin of the nuclei,
but also on other ingredients like the nuclear equation of state of asymmetric
matter..

Report from Working Group 5 : Future physics opportunities for high-density QCD at the LHC with heavy-ion and proton beams
/ Citron, Z. (Ben Gurion U. of Negev) ; Dainese, A. (INFN, Padua) ; Grosse-Oetringhaus, J.F. (CERN) ; Jowett, J.M. (CERN) ; Lee, Y.-J. (MIT) ; Wiedemann, U.A. (CERN) ; Winn, M. (AIM, Saclay ; Orsay, LAL) ; Andronic, A. (Munster U.) ; Bellini, F. (CERN) ; Bruna, E. (INFN, Turin) et al.
The future opportunities for high-density QCD with ion and proton beams at the LHC are presented. Four major scientific goals are identified: the characterisation of the macroscopic long wavelength Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) properties with unprecedented precision, the investigation of the microscopic parton dynamics underlying QGP properties, the development of a unified picture of particle production and QCD dynamics from small (pp) to large (nucleus–nucleus) systems, the exploration of parton densities in nuclei in a broad (x, Q2) kinematic range and the search for the possible onset of parton saturation. Open and hidden heavy-flavor physics in high-energy nuclear collisions are entering a new and exciting stage towards reaching a clearer understanding of the new experimental results with the possibility to link them directly to the advancement in lattice Quantum Chromo-dynamics (QCD). Recent results from experiments and theoretical developments regarding open and hidden heavy-flavor dynamics have been debated at the Lorentz Workshop "Tomography of the quark-gluon plasma with heavy quarks}, which was held in October 2016 in Leiden, the Netherlands [...]

Production of hypertritons in heavy ion collisions around the threshold of strangeness production
/ Hartnack, Christoph (SUBATECH, Nantes) ; Le Fèvre, Arnaud (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Leifels, Yvonne (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Aichelin, Jörg (SUBATECH, Nantes)
We use the Isospin Quantum Molecular Dynamics approach supplemented with a phase space coalescence to study the properties of the production of hypertritons. We see strong influences of the hyperon rescattering on the yields. [...]

Radiative energy loss in the absorptive QGP: taming the long formation lengths in coherent emission
/ Bluhm, Marcus (SUBATECH, Nantes ; CERN) ; Gossiaux, Pol Bernard (SUBATECH, Nantes) ; Gousset, Thierry (SUBATECH, Nantes) ; Aichelin, Joerg (SUBATECH, Nantes)
In an absorptive plasma, damping of radiation mechanisms can influence the bremsstrahlung formation in case of large radiation formation lengths. We study qualitatively the influence of this effect on the gluon bremsstrahlung spectrum off heavy quarks in the quark-gluon plasma. [...]
