Environmental sustainability in basic research. A perspective from HECAP+ / Sustainable HECAP+ Initiative Collaboration
The climate crisis and the degradation of the world's ecosystems require humanity to take immediate action. The international scientific community has a responsibility to limit the negative environmental impacts of basic research. [...]

The Gamma Factory (GF) is an ambitious proposal, currently explored within the CERN Physics Beyond Colliders program, for a source of photons with energies up to $\approx 400\,$MeV and photon fluxes (up to $\approx 10^{17}$ photons per second) exceeding those of the currently available gamma sources by orders of magnitude. The high-energy (secondary) photons are produced via resonant scattering of the primary laser photons by highly relativistic partially-stripped ions circulating in the accelerator. [...]

New radiation-tolerant thin planar and 3D columnar n$^+$ on p silicon pixel sensors / Boscardin, M ; Ceccarelli, Rudy (INFN, Florence) ; Dalla Betta, G.F ; Darbo, G ; Dinardo, Mauro (INFN, Milan Bicocca ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Giacomini, G ; Menasce, Dario (INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Mendicino, R ; Meschini, Marco (INFN, Florence) ; Messineo, Alberto (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) et al.
The High Luminosity upgrade of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) calls for new high radiation-tolerant solid-state pixel sensors, capable of surviving irradiation fluences up to a few $10^{16}\\$\,n$_{\rm eq}$/cm$^2$ at $\sim3$\,cm from the interaction point. The INFN ATLAS-CMS joint research activity, in collaboration with Fondazione Bruno Kessler, is aiming at the development of thin n$^+$ on p type pixel sensors to be operated at the HL-LHC. [...]

Run Control Software for the Upgrade of the ATLAS Muon to Central Trigger Processor Interface (MUCTPI) / ATLAS Collaboration
The Muon to Central Trigger Processor Interface (MUCTPI) of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN is being upgraded for the next run of the LHC in order to use optical inputs and to provide full-precision information for muon candidates to the topological trigger processor (L1TOPO) of the Level-1 trigger system. The new MUCTPI is implemented as a single ATCA blade with high-end processing FPGAs which eliminate double counting of muon candidates in overlapping regions, send muon candidates to L1TOPO, and muon multiplicities to the Central Trigger Processor (CTP), as well as readout data to the data acquisition system of the experiment. [...]

Signals for invisible matter from solar - terrestrial observations / Bertolucci, Sergio (CERN ; INFN, Italy) ; Zioutas, Konstantin (CERN ; Patras U.) ; Hofmann, Sebastian (Unlisted, DE) ; Maroudas, Marios (Patras U.)
Gravitational lensing of invisible streaming matter towards the Sun or the Earth could be the explanation of puzzling solar/terrestrial phenomena. We have analyzed solar flares, EUV emission and also the global ionization content of the Earth atmosphere. [...]

Run Control Communication for the Upgrade of the ATLAS Muon-to-Central-Trigger-Processor Interface (MUCTPI) / ATLAS Collaboration
The Muon-to-Central Trigger Processor Interface (MUCTPI) of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN will be upgraded to an ATCA blade system for Run 3. The new design requires development of new communication models for control, configuration and monitoring. [...]

The ATLAS Muon-to-Central Trigger Processor Interface Upgrade for the Run 3 of the LHC / ATLAS Collaboration
To cope with the higher luminosity and physics cross-sections for the third run of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and beyond, the Trigger and Data Acquisition (TDAQ) system of ATLAS experiment at CERN is being upgraded. Part of the TDAQ system, the Muon to Central Trigger Processor Interface (MUCTPI) receives muon candidates information from each of the 208 barrel and endcap muon trigger sectors, counts muon candidates for each transverse momentum threshold and sends the result to the Central Trigger Processor (CTP). [...]
