Empowering a broad and diverse community in beam dynamics simulations with Xsuite
/ Łopaciuk, Szymon (CERN) ; De Maria, Riccardo (CERN) ; Iadarola, Giovanni (CERN) ; Van der Veken, Frederik Florentinus (CERN)
Xsuite is a Python toolkit for modelling and simulation of particle accelerators, which has been developed at CERN together with collaborators from other institutes over the past four years. The code has reached a mature development stage and has become the workhorse for several studies and applications, allowing the gradual replacement of legacy tools like Sixtrack, COMBI, PyHEADTAIL. Tools for integrated simulation of collimation processes in Xsuite
/ Demetriadou, Despina (CERN) ; Abramov, Andrey (CERN) ; Iadarola, Giovanni (CERN) ; Van der Veken, Frederik (CERN)
The existing code for particle scattering and tracking in collimation systems integrated in SixTrack, called K2, was migrated from the current software in FORTRAN, to a new Python/C interface integrated in the Xsuite tracking code that is being developed at CERN. This is an essential step towards a full integration of collimation studies using Xtrack, and will allow profiting from GPU computing advances and the BOINC volunteer computing network. [...]

Assessing the Performance of Deep Learning Predictions for Dynamic Aperture of a Hadron Circular Particle Accelerator
/ Di Croce, Davide (EPFL, Lausanne, FSL) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Montanari, Carlo Emilio (Manchester U.) ; Pieloni, Tatiana (EPFL, Lausanne, FSL) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Van der Veken, Frederik F (CERN)
Understanding the concept of dynamic aperture provides essential insights into nonlinear beam dynamics, beam losses, and the beam lifetime in circular particle accelerators. This comprehension is crucial for the functioning of modern hadron synchrotrons like the CERN Large Hadron Collider and the planning of future ones such as the Future Circular Collider. [...]

Xsuite: an integrated beam physics simulation framework
/ Iadarola, Giovanni (CERN) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Abramov, Andrey (CERN) ; Montanari, Carlo Emilio (CERN) ; Droin, Colas (CERN) ; Di Croce, Davide (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Demetriadou, Despina (CERN) ; Soubelet, Felix (CERN) ; Van der Veken, Frederik (CERN) ; Sterbini, Guido (CERN) et al.
Xsuite is a modular simulation package bringing to a single flexible and modern framework capabilities of different tools developed at CERN in the past decades notably MAD-X Sixtrack Sixtracklib COMBI and PyHEADTAIL. The suite consists of a set of Python modules (Xobjects, Xpart, Xtrack, Xcoll, Xfields, Xdeps) that can be flexibly combined together and with other accelerator-specific and general-purpose python tools to study complex simulation scenarios. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) employs special optics and configurations, alongside low-beta* collision optics, to address specific experimental requirements. These include calibrating luminosity monitors (vdM) and facilitating forward physics measurements in TOTEM and ALFA experiments (high-beta). [...]

Recent Developments with the New Tools for Collimation Simulations in Xsuite
/ Van der Veken, Frederik (CERN) ; Abramov, Andrey (CERN) ; Broggi, Giacomo (CERN ; Rome U., La Sapienza, Dip. di Astron.) ; Cerutti, Francesco (CERN) ; D'Andrea, Marco (CERN) ; Demetriadou, Despina (CERN) ; Esposito, Luigi Salvatore (CERN) ; Hugo, Gabrielle (CERN) ; Iadarola, Giovanni (CERN) ; Lindström, Bjorn (CERN) et al.
Simulations of single-particle tracking involving collimation systems need dedicated tools to perform the different tasks needed. These include the accurate description of particle-matter interactions when a tracked particle impacts a collimator jaw; a detailed aperture model to identify the longitudinal location of losses; and others. Mitigating Collimation Impedance and Improving Halo Cleaning with New Optics and Settings Strategy of the HL-LHC Betatron Collimation System

With High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) beam intensities, there are concerns that the beam losses in the dispersion suppressors around the betatron cleaning insertion might exceed the quench limits. Furthermore, to maximize the beam lifetime it is important to reduce the impedance as much as possible. [...]
