First observation of /sup 162/Hf decay : completion of an alpha -decay chain
/ Schrewe, U J ; Clifford, E T H ; Hagberg, E ; Hardy, J C ; Koslowsky, V T ; Schmeing, H ; Sharma, K S
The new isotope /sup 162/Hf (T/sub 1/2/=(37.6+or-0.8)s) is produced in a /sup 142/Nd (/sup 24/Mg,4n) reaction. The activities produced in this reaction are transported to a measuring station by use of a He- jet system. [...]

Precision mass measurements
/ Koslowsky, V T ; Azuma, R E ; Ball, G C ; Clifford, E T H ; Davies, W G ; Hagberg, E ; Hardy, J C ; Schmeing, H ; Schrewe, U J ; Sharma, K S
A new technique analogous to the 'peak-matching' method used by mass spectroscopists is being used to measure differences in reaction Q- values to a precision of 100 eV. While at present the method is being applied to the study of charge-dependent corrections in T=1 superallowed 0/sup +/ to 0/sup +/ beta-decay matrix elements, it could easily be extended to measure mass differences of nuclei farther from beta stability. [...]

The decay of a new nuclide : /sup 71/Br
/ Hagberg, E ; Clifford, E T H ; Evans, H C ; Hardy, J C ; Koslowsky, V T ; Schmeing, H ; Schrewe, U J ; Sharma, K S
The decay of mass-separated samples of the previously unknown nuclide /sup 71/Br have been investigated by means of the Chalk River on-line isotope separator. Eleven gamma -transitions were assigned to the decay of this nuclide and its half-life was measured to be 21.4+or-0.6 s. [...]

The Canadian Penning Trap spectrometer at Argonne
/ Savard, G ; Barber, R C ; Boudreau, C ; Buchinger, F ; Caggiano, J ; Clark, J ; Crawford, J E ; Fukutani, H ; Gulick, S ; Hardy, J C et al.
The Canadian Penning Trap (CPT) mass spectrometer is a device used for high-precision mass measurements on short-lived isotopes. It is located at the ATLAS superconducting heavy-ion linac facility where a novel injection system, the RF gas cooler, allows fast reaction products to be decelerated, thermalized and bunched for rapid and efficient injection into the CPT.
