The Development of MBRD Magnets, the Separation/Recombination Dipoles for the LHC High Luminosity Upgrade / Farinon, Stefania (INFN, Genoa) ; Angius, Silvano (ASG Supercond., Genova) ; Barutti, Alberto (ASG Supercond., Genova) ; Bersani, Andrea (INFN, Genoa) ; Bracco, Michela (Genoa U. ; INFN, Genoa) ; Caiffi, Barbara (INFN, Genoa) ; Fabbricatore, Pasquale (INFN, Genoa) ; Fiscarelli, Lucio (CERN) ; Foussat, Arnaud (CERN) ; Gagno, Andrea (Genoa U. ; INFN, Genoa) et al.
As part of the high-luminosity upgrade of CERN LHC accelerator project, the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) in Genoa, Italy, has developed the MBRD separation-recombination dipole, also known as D2, whose function is to bring beams into collision before and after the interaction regions of the CMS and ATLAS experiments. It is a NbTi cos-theta double aperture dipole that generates a 4.5 T field in a 105 mm aperture, with a magnetic length of 7.78 m, and has the specific feature that the magnetic field in the two apertures is oriented in the same direction. Validation of the Protection Scheme for the HL-LHC MBRD Magnet by Simulations and Prototype Tests / Caiffi, Barbara (INFN, Genoa) ; Bender, Lennard (Hochschule, Eng. Econ., Karlsruhe) ; Bersani, Andrea (INFN, Genoa) ; Bracco, Michela (INFN, Genoa) ; Farinon, Stefania (INFN, Genoa) ; Foussat, Arnaud (CERN) ; Gagno, Andrea (INFN, Genoa) ; Levi, Filippo (INFN, Genoa) ; Mangiarotti, Franco (CERN) ; Ninet, Gaelle (CERN) et al.
The High-Luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) (Todesco et al., 2021) foresees the replacement of the magnets around the interaction points of the ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN. One of the new magnets is the separation-recombination dipole, also called Main Bending Recombination Dipole (MBRD)(Caiffi et al., 2021), (Levi et al., 2022) in the D2 cryomagnet assembly. [...]

Analytical Evaluation of Dipole Performance Limits for a Muon Collider / Novelli, Daniel (U. Rome La Sapienza (main) ; INFN, Genoa) ; Bersani, Andrea (INFN, Genoa) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Caiffi, Barbara (INFN, Genoa) ; Fabbri, Siara (CERN) ; Farinon, Stefania (INFN, Genoa) ; Mariotto, Samuele (INFN, Milan ; Milan U. ; LASA, Segrate) ; Musenich, Riccardo (INFN, Genoa) ; Pampaloni, Alessandra (INFN, Genoa) ; Salmi, Tiina (Tampere U. of Tech.) et al.
Following the recommendation of the Updated European Strategy for Particle Physics, an International Muon Collider Collaboration has been formed and is currently studying the feasibility of a 10 TeV center-of-mass energy muon collider facility. Several technical challenges must be faced, mainly due to the limited muon lifetime at rest, 2.2 µs. [...]

Status on the Development of the Nb$_3$Sn 12 T Falcon Dipole for the FCC-hh- / Valente, R U (LASA, Segrate) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Bersani, A (INFN, Genoa) ; Bracco, M (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) ; Burioli, S (INFN, Genoa) ; Caiffi, B (INFN, Genoa) ; Matteis, E De (LASA, Segrate) ; Farinon, S (INFN, Genoa) ; Gagno, A (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) ; Levi, F (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) et al.
The quest for advancing science and technology continues with the Future Circular Collider (FCC), which requires 16 T bending dipoles to be installed along its 100 km tunnel to achieve a center-of-mass energy of 100 TeV, in its hadron-hadron version. The promising Nb$_3$Sn technology for superconducting magnets presents a potential solution for large-scale production. [...]

Field Quality Analysis of the Separation-Recombination Dipole MBRD for the High-Luminosity Upgrade of LHC / Pampaloni, A (INFN, Genoa) ; Bersani, A (INFN, Genoa) ; Bracco, M (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) ; Caiffi, B (INFN, Genoa) ; Farinon, S (INFN, Genoa) ; Fiscarelli, L (CERN) ; Foussat, A (CERN) ; Gagno, A (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) ; Levi, F (INFN, Genoa) ; Ninet, G (CERN) et al.
The Main Bending Recombination Dipole (MBRD), or D2, is one of the magnets foreseen by the High-Luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). D2 features a double aperture, Nb-Ti, cos $\theta$dipole, with a central field of 4.5 T for a length of 7.78 m, hence with an integrated magnetic field of 35 T$\cdot$m, in a 105 mm bore. [...]

The MBRD Dipoles for the Luminosity Upgrade at the LHC: From Prototype Tests to the Series Production / Farinon, Stefania (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) ; Angius, Silvano (ASG Supercond., Genova) ; Barutti, Alberto (ASG Supercond., Genova) ; Bersani, Andrea (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) ; Caiffi, Barbara (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) ; Fabbricatore, Pasquale (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) ; Fiscarelli, Lucio (CERN) ; Foussat, Arnaud (CERN) ; Guinchard, Michael (CERN) ; Levi, Filippo (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) et al.
The recombination dipoles MBRD for the High Luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) at CERN are double-aperture superconducting magnets generating a central magnetic field of 4.5 T in a 105 mm diameter bore, directed in the same direction in both apertures. The integrated magnetic field is 35 T-m in a magnetic length of 7.78 m: with respect to the corresponding magnet presently installed in LHC, the aperture is larger, the length is smaller and the central field is higher. The MBRD (Main Bending Recombination Dipole, or D2) is one of the magnets in the interaction region of the LHC that needs to be replaced in order to fulfill the requirements of the High-Luminosity upgrade. The magnetic field must be increased up to 4.5 T in an aperture with a diameter of 105 mm and a total length of about 8 m, to reach the target integrated field of 35 T$\cdot$m. [...]
