Stability analysis of nonthermal fixed points in longitudinally expanding kinetic theory / Mikheev, Aleksandr N. (Kirchhoff Inst. Phys. ; U. Heidelberg, ITP) ; Mazeliauskas, Aleksas (CERN) ; Berges, Jürgen (U. Heidelberg, ITP)
We use the Hamiltonian formulation of kinetic theory to perform a stability analysis of non-thermal fixed points in a non-Abelian plasma. We construct a perturbative expansion of the Fokker-Planck collision kernel in an adiabatic approximation and show that the (next-to-)leading order solutions reproduce the known non-thermal fixed point scaling exponents. Probing the evolution of heavy-ion collisions using direct photon interferometry / Garcia-Montero, Oscar (Heidelberg U.) ; Löher, Nicole (Heidelberg U.) ; Mazeliauskas, Aleksas (Heidelberg U. ; CERN) ; Berges, Jürgen (Heidelberg U.) ; Reygers, Klaus (Heidelberg U.)
We investigate the measurement of Hanbury Brown-Twiss (HBT) photon correlations as an experimental tool to discriminate different sources of photon enhancement, which are proposed to simultaneously reproduce the direct photon yield and the azimuthal anisotropy measured in nuclear collisions at RHIC and the LHC. To showcase this, we consider two different scenarios in which we enhance the yields from standard hydrodynamical simulations. [...]

Untangling the evolution of heavy ion collisions using direct photon interferometry / Garcia Montero, Oscar (Frankfurt U.) ; Löher, Nicole (Heidelberg U.) ; Mazeliauskas, Aleksas (CERN) ; Reygers, Klaus (Heidelberg U.) ; Berges, Jürgen (U. Heidelberg, ITP)
Recently, two scenarios have been proposed to resolve the discrepancy between photon yield and the flow coefficients measured in nuclear collisions at RHIC and the LHC. In the first, additional photons are produced from the early pre-equilibrium stage computed from the "bottom-up" thermalization scenario. [...]

Prescaling and far-from-equilibrium hydrodynamics in the quark-gluon plasma / Mazeliauskas, Aleksas (CERN) ; Berges, Jürgen (U. Heidelberg, ITP)
We use the leading-order QCD kinetic equations with quarks and gluons to study the quark-gluon plasma in the far-from-equilibrium state. At weak coupling, we demonstrate the emergence of early hydrodynamic behavior—prescaling—around a nonthermal fixed point, which is qualitatively different from the more conventional hydrodynamics around equilibrium. QCD thermalization: Ab initio approaches and interdisciplinary connections / Berges, Jürgen (U. Heidelberg, ITP) ; Heller, Michal P. (Potsdam, Max Planck Inst.) ; Mazeliauskas, Aleksas (CERN) ; Venugopalan, Raju (Brookhaven)
Heavy-ion collisions at BNL's Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and CERN's Large Hadron Collider provide strong evidence for the formation of a quark-gluon plasma, with temperatures extracted from relativistic viscous hydrodynamic simulations shown to be well above the transition temperature from hadron matter. How the strongly correlated quark-gluon matter forms in a heavy-ion collision, its properties off-equilibrium, and the thermalization process in the plasma, are outstanding problems in QCD. [...]
