In this work, we present the radiation environment of the large hadron collider (LHC), focusing on the year 2022, the first after the Long Shutdown 2 (LS2) (2019–2021). We highlight the most prominent radiation-level changes with respect to the 2018 operation, commenting on the related Radiation Hardness Assurance implications. [...]

Summary of the Post-Long Shutdown 2 LHC Hardware Commissioning Campaign
/ Apollonio, Andrea (CERN) ; Andreassen, Odd (CERN) ; Antoine, Alain (CERN) ; Argyropoulos, Theodoros (CERN) ; Bastos, Miguel (CERN) ; Bednarek, Mateusz (CERN) ; Bordini, Bernardo (CERN) ; Brodzinski, Krzysztof (CERN) ; Calia, Andrea (CERN) ; Charifoulline, Zinour (CERN) et al.
In this contribution we provide a summary of the LHC hardware commissioning campaign following the second CERN Long Shutdown (LS2), initially targeting the nominal LHC energy of 7 TeV. A summary of the test procedures and tools used for testing the LHC superconducting circuits is given, together with statistics on the successful test execution. [...]

FGC3.2: A New Generation of Embedded Controls Computer for Power Converters at CERN
/ Page, Stephen (CERN) ; Ghabrous Larrea, Carlos (CERN) ; King, Quentin (CERN) ; Todd, Benjamin (CERN) ; Uznanski, Slawosz (CERN) ; Zielinski, Dariusz (CERN)
Modern power converters (power supplies) at CERN are controlled by devices known as Function Generator/Controllers (FGCs), which are embedded computer systems providing function generation, current and field regulation, and state control. FGCs were originally conceived for the LHC in the early 2000s, though later generations are now increasingly being deployed in the accelerators in the LHC Injector Chain (Linac4, Booster, Proton Synchrotron and SPS) to replace obsolete equipment. Operation and performance of the CERN Large Hadron Collider during proton Run 2
/ Steerenberg, Rende (CERN) ; Albert, Markus (CERN) ; Alemany-Fernández, Reyes (CERN) ; Argyropoulos, Theodoros (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Crockford, Guy (CERN) ; Dumont, Jean-Charles (CERN) ; Fuchsberger, Kajetan (CERN) ; Giachino, Rossano (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) et al.
Run 2 of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) started in April 2015 and was successfully completed on 10th December 2018, achieving largely all goals set in terms of luminosity production. Following the first two-year long shutdown and the re-commissioning in 2015 at 6.5 TeV, the beam performance was increased to reach a peak luminosity of more than twice the design value and a colliding beam time ratio of 50%. Intensity dependance of the train instability threshold and high pile-up test with 12b trains (MD3294)

As signs of electron cloud driven instabilities at top energy were observed in MDs in 2017 even with short trains(12b), an additional experiment was performed in 2018 to assess the intensity scaling of this instability mechanism using high intensity 12b trains available from the existing injector chain, i.e [...]

Qualification of Electronic Systems for Radiation Environments of High Energy Accelerator
/ Uznanski, Slawosz (CERN) ; Garcia Alia, Ruben (CERN) ; Brugger, Markus (CERN) ; Cangialosi, Chiara (CERN) ; Danzeca, Salvatore (CERN) ; Todd, Benjamin (CERN)
Unlike a typical Radiation Hardness Assurance (RHA) methodology, this work presents a system level radiation qualification of a complex electronic system prior to component radiation characterization tests. Such a top-down approach reduces the beam time needed for qualification of components by carefully analyzing failure modes observed on the system level and performing only a subset of component tests for identified cases.
