Physics perspectives with AFTER@LHC (A Fixed Target ExpeRiment at LHC)

AFTER@LHC is an ambitious fixed-target project in order to address open questions in the domain of proton and neutron spins, Quark Gluon Plasma and high-$x$ physics, at the highest energy ever reached in the fixed-target mode. Indeed, thanks to the highly energetic 7 TeV proton and 2.76 A.TeV lead LHC beams, center-of-mass energies as large as $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 115 GeV in pp/pA and $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 72 GeV in AA can be reached, corresponding to an uncharted energy domain between SPS and RHIC. Feasibility Study for an EDM Storage Ring
/ CPEDM Collaboration
This project exploits charged particles confined as a storage ring beam (proton, deuteron, possibly $^3$He) to search for an intrinsic electric dipole moment (EDM, $\vec d$) aligned along the particle spin axis. [...]

Single-Transverse-Spin-Asymmetry studies with a fixed-target experiment using the LHC beams (AFTER@LHC)

We discuss the potential of AFTER@LHC to measure single-transverse-spin asymmetries in open-charm and bottomonium production. With a HERMES-like hydrogen polarised target, such measurements over a year can reach precisions close to the per cent level [...]

Transverse-target-spin asymmetry in exclusive $\omega$-meson electroproduction
/ HERMES Collaboration
Hard exclusive electroproduction of $\omega$ mesons is studied with the HERMES spectrometer at the DESY laboratory by scattering 27.6 GeV positron and electron beams off a transversely polarized hydrogen target. The amplitudes of five azimuthal modulations of the single-spin asymmetry of the cross section with respect to the transverse proton polarization are measured. [...]

Luminescence Beam Profile Monitor for the RHIC Polarized Hydrogen Jet Polarimeter
/ Luciano, Nicholas P ; Makdisi, Yousef ; Nass, Alexander ; Thieberger, Peter ; Trbojevic, Dejan ; Zelenski, Anatoli
This is the second polarized proton run in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) with a new polarized proton jet target used to provide accurate polarization measurements. The interactions between the stored polarized protons with the polarized jet target will produce, in addition to polarization, optical signals due to exited states of Hydrogen or other molecules, ions, or atoms.
