The present study aims to create reproducible and controlled polluted conditions in a clean gas system in order to be able to compare the behaviour of an MSGC plate operating with Ar-DME and Ne-DME gas mixtures. The achievement of such conditions seems to be more difficult than would be expected from the long term behaviour shown by MSGCs years ago in the same gas system. [...]

Microstrip gas chambers are highly performing in terms of stable operation at high rates and fluxes of minimum ionizing particles. They are manufactured on thin glass ( D-263) coated with a thin diamond-like layer by Chemical Vapor Deposition ( CVD) before photolithogrpahy ( undercoated) or after ( overcoated), thus rendering the substrate within the desired range of surface resistivities 10^14-10^16 W/q. The forward tracker of the CMS experiment at CERN will consist of a large number of MicroStrip Gas Chambers ( MSGCs), expected to operate for several years in the high luminosity environment of LHC with an accumulated dose rate of ~ 10 mC/yr per cm of strip.
