Laser spectroscopy of long-lived antiprotonic and pionic helium in superfluid helium
/ Hori, M (Mainz U. ; Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt.) ; Aghai-Khozani, H (Mainz U.) ; Sótér, A (Mainz U.) ; Dax, A (PSI, Villigen) ; Barna, D (CERN) ; Venturelli𝑒, L (INFN, Pavia ; Brescia U.)
The PiHe collaboration of PSI recently carried out laser spectroscopy of an infrared transition in three-body pionic helium atoms that were synthesized in a superfluid (He-II) helium target. Analogous measurements of antiprotonic helium atoms embedded in liquid helium were carried out by the ASACUSA collaboration of CERN. [...]

Laser spectroscopic studies of long-lived pionic helium at PSI
/ Hori, M (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt.) ; Aghai-Khozani, H (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt. ; CERN ; Cambridge U., DAMTP) ; Soter, A (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt. ; Zurich, ETH) ; Dax, A (PSI, Villigen) ; Barna, D (CERN ; Wigner RCP, Budapest)
A recent laser spectroscopy experiment of three-body pionic helium atoms which was carried out using the 590 MeV ring cyclotron facility of the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is briefly reviewed. The charged pion mass may be precisely determined by measuring the transition frequency of the pionic atom and comparing the results with quantum electrodynamics (QED) calculations. [...]

High-resolution laser resonances of antiprotonic helium in superfluid $^{4}$He
/ Sótér, Anna (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt. ; Zurich, ETH) ; Aghai-Khozani, Hossein (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt.) ; Barna, Dániel (CERN ; Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Dax, Andreas (CERN ; PSI, Villigen) ; Venturelli, Luca (U. Brescia ; INFN, Pavia) ; Hori, Masaki (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt. ; Munich U.)
When atoms are placed into liquids, their optical spectral lines corresponding to the electronic transitions are greatly broadened compared to those of single, isolated atoms. This linewidth increase can often reach a factor of more than a million, obscuring spectroscopic structures and preventing high-resolution spectroscopy, even when superfluid helium, which is the most transparent, cold and chemically inert liquid, is used as the host material. Recent results of laser spectroscopy experiments of pionic helium atoms at PSI
/ HORI, Masaki (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt.) ; Aghai-Khozani, H (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt.) ; Sótér, Anna (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt.) ; Dax, Andreas (PSI, Villigen) ; Barna, Daniel (CERN)
A review of a recent experiment carried out at PSI involving laser spectroscopy of metastable pionic helium $(\pi^4\textrm{He}^+ \equiv \pi^- + ^4\textrm{He}^{2+}+e^-)$ atoms is presented. An infrared transition $(n, \ell ) = (17,16) \to (17, 15)$ at a resonance frequency of $\nu \approx 183760$ GHz was detected..

Laser Spectroscopy Measurements of Metastable Pionic Helium Atoms at Paul Scherrer Institute
/ Hori, M (Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt.) ; Aghai-Khozani, H (Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt. ; Unlisted, DE) ; Sótér, A (Zurich, ETH) ; Dax, A (PSI, Villigen) ; Barna, D (CERN ; Wigner RCP, Budapest)
We review recent experiments carried out by the PiHe collaboration of the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) that observed an infrared transition of three-body pionic helium atoms by laser spectroscopy. These measurements may lead to a precise determination of the charged pion mass, and complement experiments of antiprotonic helium atoms carried out at the new ELENA facility of CERN..

Some experimental limits on the annihilation cross sections $σ_{\textrm{ann}}$ of antiprotons on carbon, palladium, and platinum targets were determined at the previously unexplored kinetic energy region E≈125 keV. Information on $σ_{\textrm{ann}}$ at such low antiproton energies is important in understanding the dynamics of the annihilation process, and provides useful data for models that attempt to describe the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe by assuming the existence of islands of antimatter concentration..

Recent Results on the Antiproton-Nucleus Annihilation Cross Section at Low Energy
/ Aghai-Khozani, H ; Corradini, M ; Hayano, R ; Hori, M ; Leali, M ; Lodi-Rizzini, E ; Mascagna, V ; Murakami, Y ; Prest, M ; Vallazza, E et al.
Measurements of the antinucleon-nuclei annihilation cross section (σ_ann) at very low energies have been performed at CERN during the 80’s and 90’s with the LEAR facility and more recently with the Antiproton Decelerator. One of the unexplained results is the behaviour of the antineutron data on several nuclei (C, Al, Cu, Ag, Sn, Pb) at momenta below 180 MeV/c [1], where the σ_ann values, as a function of energy, have a steep rise typical of low-energy charged projectiles [2].
