Production rates of long-lived radionuclides Be10 and Al26 under direct muon-induced spallation in granite quartz and its implications for past high-energy cosmic ray fluxes / Sakurai, H (Yamagata U.) ; Kurebayashi, Y (Yamagata U.) ; Suzuki, S (Yamagata U.) ; Horiuchi, K (Hirosaki U.) ; Takahashi, Y (Yamagata U.) ; Doshita, N (Yamagata U.) ; Kikuchi, S (Yamagata U.) ; Tokanai, F (Yamagata U.) ; Iwata, N (Yamagata U.) ; Tajima, Y (Yamagata U.) et al.
This study measured the Be10 and Al26 production cross sections of muon-induced long-lived radionuclides to investigate the long-term variations in high-energy cosmic ray muon yields and high-energy galactic cosmic rays over a few million years. We exposed targets consisting of synthetic silica plates and quartz samples in a 1-m-long granite core to a beam containing 8.79×1012 positive muons over ∼120  days with an energy of 160 GeV extracted at the COMPASS experiment line at CERN-SPS. Search for Subsolar-Mass Binaries in the First Half of Advanced LIGO’s and Advanced Virgo’s Third Observing Run / LIGO Scientific Collaboration
We report on a search for compact binary coalescences where at least one binary component has a mass between 0.2 $M_\odot$ and 1.0 $M_\odot$ in Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo data collected between 1 April 2019 1500 UTC and 1 October 2019 1500 UTC. We extend previous analyses in two main ways: we include data from the Virgo detector and we allow for more unequal mass systems, with mass ratio $q \geq 0.1$. [...]

High energy muon induced radioactive nuclides in nickel plate and its use for 2-D muon-beam image profile / Kurebayashi, Y (Yamagata U.) ; Sakurai, H (Yamagata U.) ; Takahashi, Y (Yamagata U.) ; Doshita, N (Yamagata U.) ; Kikuchi, S (Yamagata U.) ; Tokanai, F (Yamagata U.) ; Horiuchi, K (Hirosaki U.) ; Tajima, Y (Yamagata U.) ; Oe, T (Yamagata U.) ; Sato, T (Yamagata U.) et al.
Target materials were exposed to a muon beam with an energy of 160 GeV/c at the COMPASS experiment line in CERN-SPS to measure the production cross-sections for muon-induced radionuclides. A muon imager containing four nickel plates, each measuring 100 mm×100 mm, exposed to the IP plate successfully detected the muon beam image during an irradiation period of 33 days. [...]

First Ionization Potentials of Fm, Md, No, and Lr: Verification of Filling-Up of 5f Electrons and Confirmation of the Actinide Series / Sato, Tetsuya K (JAEA, Ibaraki) ; Asai, Masato (JAEA, Ibaraki) ; Borschevsky, Anastasia (Groningen U.) ; Beerwerth, Randolf (Jena U., TPI) ; Kaneya, Yusuke (JAEA, Ibaraki) ; Makii, Hiroyuki (JAEA, Ibaraki) ; Mitsukai, Akina (JAEA, Ibaraki) ; Nagame, Yuichiro (JAEA, Ibaraki) ; Osa, Akihiko (JAEA, Ibaraki) ; Toyoshima, Atsushi (JAEA, Ibaraki) et al.
We report the first ionization potentials (IP1) of the heavy actinides, fermium (Fm, atomic number Z = 100), mendelevium (Md, Z = 101), nobelium (No, Z = 102), and lawrencium (Lr, Z = 103), determined using a method based on a surface ionization process coupled to an online mass separation technique in an atom-at-a-time regime. The measured IP1 values agree well with those predicted by state-of-the-art relativistic calculations performed alongside the present measurements. [...]

Nuclear moments of the low-lying isomeric 1$^+$ state of $^{34}$Al: Investigation on the neutron 1$p$1$h$ excitation across $N=20$ in the island of inversion / Xu, Z Y (Leuven U.) ; Heylen, H (Leuven U. ; CERN ; Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Asahi, K (Nishina Ctr., RIKEN ; Tokyo Inst. Tech.) ; Boulay, F (CEA DAM) ; Daugas, J M (CEA DAM) ; de Groote, R P (Leuven U.) ; Gins, W (Leuven U.) ; Kamalou, O (GANIL) ; Koszorús, Á (Leuven U.) ; Lykiardopoulou, M (Athens U.) et al.
The nuclear $g$ factor and quadrupole moment ($Q_s$) have been measured for the low-lying isomeric $1^+$ state of $^{34}$Al, using the $\beta$-detected nuclear magnetic resonance ($\beta$-NMR) and quadrupole resonance ($\beta$-NQR) methods. Spin-polarized $^{34}$Al isotopes were produced in a one-neutron pickup reaction induced by a $^{36}$S beam on a $^9$Be target at a kinetic energy of 77.5 MeV/nucleon, and were collected with the LISE fragment separator at GANIL. Characterization of the PTW 34031 ionization chamber (PMI) at RCNP with high energy neutrons ranging from 100 – 392 MeV / Theis, C (CERN) ; Carbonez, P (CERN) ; Feldbaumer, E (CERN) ; Forkel-Wirth, D (CERN) ; Jaegerhofer, L (CERN) ; Pangallo, M (CERN) ; Perrin, D (CERN) ; Urscheler, C (CERN) ; Roesler, S (CERN) ; H Vincke (CERN) et al.
Radiation monitoring at high energy proton accelerators poses a considerable challenge due to the complexity of the encountered stray radiation fields. These environments comprise a wide variety of different particle types and span from fractions of electron-volts up to several terra electron-volts. [...]

We report on development of a gas-jet transport system coupled to a surface ionization ion-source in the JAEA-ISOL (Isotope Separator On-Line) system. As a new aerosol material for the gas-jet system, CdI2, which has a low boiling point of 713 °C, is exploited to prevent deposition of the aerosol material on the surface of the ion-source. [...]
