Light-yield response of liquid scintillators using 2–6 MeV tagged neutrons / Hall-Wilton, R. (ESS, Lund ; Glasgow U. ; Fond. Bruno Kessler, Trento) ; Kanaki, K. (ESS, Lund) ; Maulerova-Subert, V. (Lund U. (main) ; ESS, Lund ; CERN) ; Messi, F. (Lund U. (main)) ; Frost, R.J.W. (Lund U. (main) ; Uppsala U.) ; Rofors, E. (Lund U. (main)) ; Scherzinger, J. (Frankfurt U.)
Knowledge of the neutron light-yield response is crucial to the understanding of scintillator-based neutron detectors. In this work, neutrons from 2--6 MeV have been used to study the scintillation light-yield response of the liquid scintillators NE 213A, EJ 305, EJ 331 and EJ 321P using event-by-event waveform digitization. A light-yield calibration of an NE 213A organic liquid scintillator detector has been performed using both monoenergetic and polyenergetic gamma-ray sources. Scintillation light was detected in a photomultiplier tube, and the corresponding pulses were subjected to waveform digitization on an event-by-event basis. [...]

Defect characterization studies on neutron irradiated boron-doped silicon pad diodes and Low Gain Avalanche Detectors / Himmerlich, Anja (CERN) ; Castello-Mor, Nuria (CERN) ; Rivera, Esteban Curras (CERN) ; Gurimskaya, Yana (CERN) ; Maulerova-Subert, Vendula (CERN ; Hamburg U.) ; Moll, Michael (CERN) ; Pintilie, Ioana (Bucharest U.) ; Fretwurst, Eckhart (Hamburg U.) ; Liao, Chuan (Hamburg U.) ; Schwandt, Jorn (Hamburg U.)
High-energy physics detectors, like Low Gain Avalanche Detectors (LGADs) that will be used as fast timing detectors in the High Luminosity LHC experiments, have to exhibit a significant radiation tolerance. Thereby the impact of radiation on the highly boron-doped gain layer that enables the internal charge multiplication, is of special interest, since due to the so-called Acceptor Removal Effect (ARE) a radiation-induced deactivation of active boron dopants takes place.
