This manuscript samples a series of recent results in the quest for a systematic understanding of the space of conformal field theories, with a particular focus on theories with extended supersymmetry. The large majority of results reported here were presented during the second Pollica summer workshop which took place from June 3–21 2019 and focused on mathematical and geometric tools for superconformal field theories. VOAs and rank-two instanton SCFTs
/ Beem, Christopher (Oxford U., Inst. Math.) ; Meneghelli, Carlo (Oxford U., Inst. Math.) ; Peelaers, Wolfger (Oxford U., Inst. Math.) ; Rastelli, Leonardo (YITP, Stony Brook ; CERN)
We analyze the N=2 superconformal field theories that arise when a pair of D3-branes probe an F-theory singularity from the perspective of the associated vertex operator algebra. We identify these vertex operator algebras for all cases; we find that they have a completely uniform description, parameterized by the dual Coxeter number of the corresponding global symmetry group. Sphere Packing and Quantum Gravity
/ Hartman, Thomas (Cornell U., Phys. Dept.) ; Mazáč, Dalimil (YITP, Stony Brook ; Stony Brook U., New York, SCGP) ; Rastelli, Leonardo (YITP, Stony Brook ; CERN)
We establish a precise relation between the modular bootstrap, used to constrain the spectrum of 2D CFTs, and the sphere packing problem in Euclidean geometry. The modular bootstrap bound for chiral algebra $U(1)^c$ maps exactly to the Cohn-Elkies linear programming bound on the sphere packing density in $d=2c$ dimensions. [...]

Free Field Realizations from the Higgs Branch
/ Beem, Christopher (Oxford U., Inst. Math. ; St. John's Coll., Oxford) ; Meneghelli, Carlo (Oxford U., Inst. Math.) ; Rastelli, Leonardo (YITP, Stony Brook ; CERN)
We present free field realizations for the associated vertex operator algebras of a number of four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ superconformal field theories. Our constructions utilize an exceptionally small set of chiral bosons whose number matches the complex dimensionality of the Higgs branch of the superconformal field theory. [...]

Long-range critical exponents near the short-range crossover
/ Behan, Connor (YITP, Stony Brook) ; Rastelli, Leonardo (YITP, Stony Brook) ; Rychkov, Slava (CERN ; Ecole Normale Superieure ; UPMC, Paris (main)) ; Zan, Bernardo (ITPP, Lausanne ; CERN)
The $d$-dimensional long-range Ising model, defined by spin-spin interactions decaying with the distance as the power $1/r^{d+s}$, admits a second order phase transition with continuously varying critical exponents. At $s = s_*$, the phase transition crosses over to the usual short-range universality class. [...]

The $(2,0)$ superconformal bootstrap
/ Beem, Christopher (Princeton, Inst. Advanced Study) ; Lemos, Madalena (YITP, Stony Brook) ; Rastelli, Leonardo (YITP, Stony Brook) ; van Rees, Balt C. (CERN)
We develop the conformal bootstrap program for six-dimensional conformal field theories with $(2,0)$ supersymmetry, focusing on the universal four-point function of stress tensor multiplets. We review the solution of the superconformal Ward identities and describe the superconformal block decomposition of this correlator. [...]

The ${\mathcal N}=2$ superconformal bootstrap
/ Beem, Christopher (Princeton, Inst. Advanced Study) ; Lemos, Madalena (YITP, Stony Brook) ; Liendo, Pedro (Humboldt U., Berlin) ; Rastelli, Leonardo (YITP, Stony Brook) ; van Rees, Balt C. (CERN)
In this work we initiate the conformal bootstrap program for ${\mathcal N}=2$ superconformal field theories in four dimensions. We promote an abstract operator-algebraic viewpoint in order to unify the description of Lagrangian and non-Lagrangian theories, and formulate various conjectures concerning the landscape of theories.
