We present the 1st results of the event-by-event study of long-range correlations between event mean Pt and charged particle multiplicity using NA49 experimental data in two separated rapidity intervals in 158 A *Ge V Pb Pb collisions at the CERN SPS. Noticeable long range correlations are found. [...]

A Passion for Discovery
/ Peter FREUND (speaker) (University of Chicago)
The human side of doing theoretical physics is explored through stories about the interactions between physicists and about the effects world events can have on scientists' behavior, and even on their interests and style. These stories cluster nicely around certain bigger themes to create an overarching whole. [...]

Inclusive particle production in pp interactions at 12 and 24 GeV/c I The central region
/ Mück, H J ; Blobel, Volker ; Brandenburg, G ; Brandt, A ; Drews, G ; Fesefeldt, H S ; Franz, H ; Freund, P ; Hellwig, B ; Lüers, D et al.
The authors present double-differential cross sections for the central region in the reactions p+p to pi /sup +or-/+anything at incident laboratory momenta of 12 and 24 GeV/c, and compare them with CERN-ISR measurements at higher momenta. They find remarkable regularities when they express these cross sections as functions of y*, p/sub T/, and s. [...]
