Upgrade of the PS booster-to-ISOLDE beam transfer line to facilitate an increase in proton driver energy
/ Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Bernardes, Ana (CERN) ; Newborough, Antony (CERN) ; del Alamo, Daniel (CERN) ; Grenier-Boley, Edouard (CERN) ; Pozzi, Fabio (CERN) ; Di Giovanni, Gian Piero (CERN) ; Corso, Jean-Pierre (CERN) ; Vollaire, Joachim (CERN) ; Ferreira Somoza, Jose (CERN) et al.
Following the successful completion of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project, since 2021 the Proton Synchrotron (PS) Booster has served the LHC injector chain with protons at an increased kinetic energy of 2 GeV. An upgrade of the ISOLDE (Isotope Separator On-Line DEvice) facility has long been considered to produce radioactive ion beams with a higher energy proton driver beam. [...]

Electronics Irradiation With Neutrons at the NEAR Station of the n_TOF Spallation Source at CERN
/ Cecchetto, Matteo (CERN) ; Sacristan Barbero, Mario (CERN) ; Lerner, Giuseppe (CERN) ; García Alía, Rubén (CERN) ; Aguiar, Ygor (CERN) ; Senajova, Dominika (CERN) ; Garcia Infantes, Francisco (CERN) ; Pavon Rodriguez, Jose Antonio (CERN) ; Sabate Gilarte, Marta (CERN) ; Vlachoudis, Vasilis (CERN) et al.
We study the neutron field at the NEAR station of the neutron time-of-flight (n_TOF) facility at CERN, through Monte Carlo simulations, well-characterized static random access memories (SRAMs), and radio-photoluminescence (RPL) dosimeters, with the aim of providing neutrons for electronics irradiation. Particle fluxes and typical quantities relevant for electronics testing were simulated for several test positions at NEAR and compared to those at the CERN high-energy accelerator mixed-field facility (CHARM), highlighting similitudes and differences. Radiological characterization for the disposal of a decommissioned LHC external beam dump at CERN
/ Infantino, Angelo (CERN) ; Harbron, Richard William (CERN) ; Mouret, Renaud (CERN) ; Bertreix, Philippe (CERN) ; Bernardes, Ana-Paula (CERN) ; Bruno, Luca (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Dumont, Gerald (CERN) ; El-Idrissi, Safouane (CERN) ; Magistris, Matteo (CERN) et al.
During the last Long Shutdown, a scheduled maintenance period between physics runs, the two Large Hadron Collider (LHC) beam dumps were replaced with upgraded spares modules. It was then decided to conduct an in-house autopsy and a post-irradiation examination of the removed dumps to extract information essential for the 3rd LHC physics run and to aid the design of new generations of beam dumps able to cope with future upgrades of the LHC. We present NEAR, a new experimental area at the CERN-n_TOF facility and a possible setup for cross section measurements of interest to nuclear astrophysics. This was recently realized with the aim of performing spectral-averaged neutron-capture cross section measurements by means of the activation technique. [...]

CERN-MEDICIS: A Review Since Commissioning in 2017
/ MEDICIS Collaboration
The CERN-MEDICIS (MEDical Isotopes Collected from ISolde) facility has delivered its first radioactive ion beam at CERN (Switzerland) in December 2017 to support the research and development in nuclear medicine using non-conventional radionuclides. Since then, fourteen institutes, including CERN, have joined the collaboration to drive the scientific program of this unique installation and evaluate the needs of the community to improve the research in imaging, diagnostics, radiation therapy and personalized medicine. First laser ions at the CERN-MEDICIS facility
/ MEDICIS Collaboration
The CERN-MEDICIS facility aims to produce emerging medical radionuclides for the theranostics approach in nuclear medicine with mass separation of ion beams. To enhance the radioisotope yield and purity of collected samples, the resonance ionization laser ion source MELISSA was constructed, and provided the first laser ions at the facility in 2019. [...]
