Study of the Dynamics in a Linac Booster for Proton Therapy in the 30-62 MeV Energy Range
/ Vaccaro, Vittorio G ; Clauser, Tarcisio ; De Martinis, Carlo ; Giove, Dario ; Lanzone, S ; Masullo, Maria R ; Mauri, Marco ; Rainò, Antonio ; Variale, Vincenzo
Recent results in accelerator physics have shown the feasibility of a coupling scheme between a cyclotron and a linac for proton acceleration. Cyclotrons with energies up to 30 MeV, mainly devoted to radioisotopes production, are available in a large number of medical centres. [...]

A New Tuning Module for Resonant Coupling Structures
/ Vaccaro, Vittorio G ; Clauser, Tarcisio ; De Martinis, Carlo ; Giove, Dario ; Masullo, Maria R ; Mauri, Marco ; Rainò, Antonio ; Variale, Vincenzo
In order to have efficient particle acceleration it is fundamental that the particles experience, in the accelerating gap, field amplitudes as uniform and as high as possible from gap to gap. Because of the unavoidable fabrication errors, an accelerating structure, when assembled, exhibits field values lower than the nominal ones and/or not uniform. [...]

Measurements of Ion Selective Containment on the RF Charge Breeder Device BRIC
/ Variale, Vincenzo ; Bak, Petr A ; Batazova, Marina ; Boggia, Antonio ; Clauser, Tarcisio ; Kuznetsov, Gennady I ; Rainò, Antonio ; Shiyankov, Sergey ; Skarbo, Boris A ; Valentino, Vincenzo et al.
The "charge state breeder" BRIC (BReeding Ion Charge) is based on an EBIS source and it is designed to accept Radioactive Ion Beam (RIB) with charge +1, in a slow injection mode, to increase their charge state up to +n. BRIC has been developed at the INFN section of Bari (Italy) during these last 3 years with very limited funds. [...]

The cosmic ray proton, helium and CNO fluxes in the 100 TeV energy region from TeV muons and EAS atmospheric Cherenkov light observations of MACRO and EAS-TOP
/ Aglietta, M ; Alessandro, B ; Ambrosio, M ; Antolini, R ; Antonioli, P ; Arneodo, F ; Baldini, A ; Barbarino, G C ; Barish, B C ; Battistoni, G et al.
The primary cosmic ray (CR) proton, helium and CNO fluxes in the energy range 80-300 TeV are studied at the National Gran Sasso Laboratories by means of EAS-TOP (Campo Imperatore, 2005 m a.s.l.) and MACRO (deep underground, 3100 m w.e., the surface energy threshold for a muon reaching the detector being E/sub mu //sup th/ approximately=1.3 TeV). The measurement is based on: (a) the selection of primaries based on their energy/nucleon (i.e., with energy/nucleon sufficient to produce a muon with energy larger than 1.3 TeV) and the reconstruction of the shower geometry by means of the muons recorded by MACRO in the deep underground laboratories; (b) the detection of the associated atmospheric Cherenkov light (C.l.) signals by means of the C.l.
