Renormalization of the topological charge density in QCD with dimensional regularization
/ Lüscher, Martin (CERN ; U. Bern, AEC) ; Weisz, Peter (Munich, Max Planck Inst.)
To all orders of perturbation theory, the renormalization of the topological charge density in dimensionally regularized QCD is shown to require no more than an additive renormalization proportional to the divergence of the flavour-singlet axial current. The proof is based on the standard BRS analysis of the QCD vertex functional in the background gauge and exploits the special algebraic properties of the charge density through the Stora--Zumino chain of descent equations..

Perturbative analysis of the gradient flow in non-abelian gauge theories
/ Lüscher, Martin (CERN) ; Weisz, Peter (Munich, Max Planck Inst.)
The gradient flow in non-abelian gauge theories on R^4 is defined by a local diffusion equation that evolves the gauge field as a function of the flow time in a gauge-covariant manner. Similarly to the case of the Langevin equation, the correlation functions of the time-dependent field can be expanded in perturbation theory, the Feynman rules being those of a renormalizable field theory on R^4 x [0,oo). Quark confinement and the bosonic string
/ Luscher, Martin (CERN) ; Weisz, Peter (Munich, Max Planck Inst.)
Using a new type of simulation algorithm for the standard SU(3) lattice gauge theory that yields results with unprecedented precision, we confirm the presence of a $\gamma/r$ correction to the static quark potential at large distances $r$, with a coefficient $\gamma$ as predicted by the bosonic string theory. In both three and four dimensions, the transition from perturbative to string behaviour is evident from the data and takes place at surprisingly small distances..

Non-perturbative O(a) improvement of lattice QCD
/ Luscher, Martin (DESY) ; Sint, Stefan (Florida State U., SCRI) ; Sommer, Rainer (DESY, Zeuthen ; CERN) ; Weisz, Peter (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Wolff, Ulli (Humboldt U., Berlin)
The coefficients multiplying the counterterms required for O($a$) improvement of the action and the isovector axial current in lattice QCD are computed non-perturbatively, in the quenched approximation and for bare gauge couplings $g_0$ in the range $0 \leq g_0 \leq 1$. A finite-size method based on the Schr\"odinger functional is employed, which enables us to perform all calculations at zero or nearly zero quark mass. [...]

Some new results in O(a) improved lattice QCD

It is shown how on-shell O(a) improvement can be implemented non-perturbatively in lattice QCD with Wilson quarks. Improvement conditions are obtained by requiring the PCAC relation to hold exactly in certain matrix elements. [...]

Non-perturbative renormalization of lattice QCD at all scales
/ Jansen, Karl (DESY) ; Liu, Chuan (DESY) ; Luscher, Martin (DESY) ; Simma, Hubert (Edinburgh U.) ; Sint, Stefan (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Sommer, Rainer (CERN) ; Weisz, Peter (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Wolff, Ulli (Humboldt U., Berlin)
A general strategy to solve the non-perturbative renormalization problem in lattice QCD, using finite-size techniques and numerical simulations, is described. As an illustration we discuss the computation of the axial current normalization constant, the running coupling at zero quark masses and the scale evolution of the renormalized axial density. [...]
