A setup for vacuum-ultraviolet spectroscopy of the $^{229}$Th low-energy isomer / Kraemer, Sandro (KU Leuven ; LMU, Garching) ; Chhetri, Premaditya (KU Leuven) ; Bara, Silvia (KU Leuven) ; Claessens, Arno (KU Leuven) ; De Witte, Hilde (KU Leuven) ; Elskens, Yens (KU Leuven) ; Ferrer, Rafael (KU Leuven) ; Kudryavtsev, Yuri (KU Leuven) ; Sels, Simon (KU Leuven) ; Van Den Bergh, Paul (KU Leuven) et al.
The ground-state transition of the low-energy isomer in $^{229}$Th has been proposed as the basis for the development of a novel optical clock as a tool for fundamental-physics studies. Vacuum-ultraviolet studies of the 𝛽-decay of 229Ac recently enabled to measure the de-excitation energy of the isomer with a sevenfold improvement in precision compared to previous results by directly observing photons from the isomer’s radiative decay. Design and commissioning of an ion guide system for In-Gas Laser Ionization and Spectroscopy experiments / Sels, S (CERN ; Leuven U.) ; Ferrer, R (Leuven U.) ; Dockx, K (Leuven U.) ; Granados Buitrago, C (Leuven U. ; CERN) ; Huyse, M (Leuven U.) ; Kudryavtsev, Yu (Leuven U.) ; Kraemer, S (Leuven U.) ; Raeder, S (Leuven U.) ; Van Den Bergh, P (Leuven U.) ; Van Duppen, P (Leuven U.) et al.
Radio-frequency (RF) ion guides, also known as Linear Paul Traps, are powerful devices to efficiently transport ion beams from high to low pressure regions while keeping good ion optical properties. A set of ion guides comprising three different RF quadrupole (RFQ) structures has been designed using ion-trajectory simulations to improve the performance of the In-Gas Laser Ionizations and Spectroscopy (IGLIS) technique currently under development at KU Leuven. Single-longitudinal-mode pumped pulsed-dye amplifier for high-resolution laser spectroscopy / Verlinde, M (Leuven U.) ; Ferrer, R (Leuven U.) ; Claessens, A (Leuven U.) ; Granados, C A (Leuven U. ; CERN) ; Kraemer, S (Leuven U.) ; Kudryavtsev, Yu (Leuven U.) ; Li, D (Unlisted, DE) ; Van den Bergh, P (Leuven U.) ; Van Duppen, P (Leuven U.) ; Verstraelen, E (Leuven U.)
The In-Gas-jet Laser Ionization and Spectroscopy (IGLIS) technique relies on narrow-bandwidth, high-peak-power, short-pulse-length (≈10 ns), and high-repetition-rate laser pulses to probe, precisely and efficiently, the hyperfine structure of medium-heavy and heavy isotopes, embedded in a supersonic jet. The power and repetition rate requirements of the laser system are met by combining ≈100 W, 8 ns pulse width, 10 kHz commercial Nd:YAG pump lasers with a single-mode continuous wave seeded Pulsed Dye Amplifier (PDA). $β$-delayed fission of $^{180}$Tl / Elseviers, J ; Andreyev, A N (York U., England ; JAEA, Ibaraki) ; Huyse, M (Leuven U.) ; Van Duppen, P (Leuven U.) ; Antalic, S (Comenius U.) ; Barzakh, A (St. Petersburg, INP) ; Bree, N (Leuven U.) ; Cocolios, T E (CERN ; Leuven U.) ; Comas, V F (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Diriken, J (Leuven U.) et al.
The detailed analysis of the β-delayed fission data of $^{180}$Tl is presented. The experiment was performed by producing a pure beam of $^{180}$Tl by means of highly selective resonance laser ionization followed by mass separation with the ISOLDE (CERN, Geneva) isotope separator. [...]

Background: The neutron-deficient lead region provides a range of nuclear phenomena, including isomerism at low energies. This phenomenon can be studied by α decay because the degree of hindrance of α decay provides information on the change in nuclear structure of connected states. [...]

Alternative approach to populate and study the $^{229}$Th nuclear clock isomer / Verlinde, M. (Leuven U.) ; Kraemer, S. (Leuven U.) ; Moens, J. (Leuven U.) ; Chrysalidis, K. (CERN) ; Correia, J.G. A new approach to observe the radiative decay of the $^{229}$Th nuclear isomer, and to determine its energy and radiative lifetime, is presented. Situated at a uniquely low excitation energy, this nuclear state might be a key ingredient for the development of a nuclear clock, a nuclear laser and the search for time variations of the fundamental constants.
