The first superconducting final focus quadrupole prototype of the FCC-ee study
/ Thabuis, Adrien (CERN) ; Koratzinos, Michael (CERN) ; Kirby, Glyn (CERN) ; Liebsch, Melvin (CERN) ; Petrone, Carlo (CERN)
A single aperture Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) quadrupole magnet, made of NbTi superconductors, has been developed for the final focus region of the FCC-ee study. The conductor layout is optimised to mitigate edge effects on one of the two sides of the magnet that typically lead to undesired higher-order multipoles. [...]

Curved-Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCCT) Dipole Prototype Development at CERN
/ Haziot, Ariel (CERN) ; Kirby, Glyn (CERN) ; Dallocchio, Alessandro (CERN) ; Devred, Arnaud (CERN) ; Foussat, Arnaud (CERN) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) ; Mangiarotti, Franco J (CERN) ; Pentella, Mariano (CERN) ; Petrone, Carlo (CERN) ; Pincot, Francois-Olivier (CERN) et al.
Due to its flexibility in generating advanced field harmonic corrections and potential for low cost compared to traditional designs, the Canted Cosine Theta (CCT) configuration is particularly interesting for compact particle accelerators and gantries for medical applications. This article presents the design of a curved demonstrator named Fusillo, a Canted Cosine Theta Nb-Ti dipole magnet that is being developed at CERN, featuring a large aperture of 236 mm, a small bending radius of 1 m, a bending angle of 90$^{\circ }$, and multi-harmonic field correction, with a 3.61 T conductor peak field. Characterisation of SiC Varistor Quench Protection Operating at 4 Kelvin for Use With Superconducting Magnets
/ Galvin, Tom ; Kirby, Glyn (CERN) ; Pepitone, Kevin (Uppsala U.) ; Coll, Dominic ; Twin, Andrew (Oxford Instruments) ; Warren, David (Oxford Instruments) ; Ball, Steven (Oxford Instruments)
Silicon carbide (SiC) composite high-energy varistors have been demonstrated as a viable alternative to linear resistors as energy extraction devices during an abrupt loss of superconductivity in a magnet, called a quench. These have typically been installed external to the cryostat at ambient temperatures, but for some superconducting magnets it may be beneficial to mount the varistors within the cryostat in vacuum, a gaseous environment, or submerged in liquid cryogens. / Resta-López, Javier (GACE-ICMUV) ; Foussat, Arnaud (CERN) ; Kirby, Glyn (CERN) ; Martel, Ismael (Huelva U.) ; Rodin, Volodymyr (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.)
The recent development of radioactive beam facilities has significantly expanded the capabilities for investigating the structure of the atomic nucleus and the nuclear interaction. For instance, the HIE-ISOLDE facility at CERN delivers presently the largest range of low-energy radioactive beam available worldwide. [...]

The Hollow Electron Lens (HEL) units are part of the upgrade baseline of the High-Luminosity LHC accelerator (HL-LHC) and will be installed in the machine ring at point P4 on each counter-rotating LHC proton beamline during a long shutdown in 2025-2027 at CERN. The main goal is to improve the collimation system performance by controlling beam energy loss in the beam halo. [...]
