Hot electron enhanced photoemission from laser fabricated plasmonic photocathodes / Martinez-Calderon, Miguel (CERN) ; Groussin, Baptiste (CERN) ; Bjelland, Victoria (CERN ; Norwegian U. Sci. Tech.) ; Chevallay, Eric (CERN) ; Fedosseev, Valentin N (CERN) ; Himmerlich, Marcel (CERN) ; Lorenz, Pierre ; Manjavacas, Alejandro ; Marsh, Bruce A (CERN) ; Neupert, Holger (CERN) et al.
Photocathodes are key elements in high-brightness electron sources and ubiquitous in the operation of large-scale accelerators, although their operation is often limited by their quantum efficiency and lifetime. Here, we propose to overcome these limitations by utilizing direct-laser nanostructuring techniques on copper substrates, improving their efficiency and robustness for next-generation electron photoinjectors. Colorizing metals using micrometer and nanometer scale surface modifications has been vastly investigated and presents many advantages for applications across scientific and technological fields. By tuning the surface chemical composition or controlling its morphology, it is possible to produce a wide range of chromatic effects. [...]

We report on the development, characterization, and first application of a specialized resonance ionization laser ion source for high-resolution spectroscopy applications below usual hot cavity Doppler broadening limitations, for on-line experiments at CERN-ISOLDE. The new PI-LIST ion source comprises perpendicular laser/atom beam interaction in a radio-frequency quadrupole unit directly downstream the hot atomizer cavity. [...]

Spectral synthesis of multimode lasers to the Fourier limit in integrated Fabry–Perot diamond resonators / Granados, Eduardo (CERN) ; Granados, Camilo ; Ahmed, Rizwan (CERN) ; Chrysalidis, Katerina (CERN) ; Fedosseev, Valentin N (CERN) ; Marsh, Bruce A (CERN) ; Wilkins, Shane G (CERN) ; Mildren, Richard P (Macquarie U.) ; Spence, David J (Macquarie U.)
Fourier-limited nanosecond pulses featuring narrow spectral bandwidths are required for applications in spectroscopy, sensing, and quantum optics. Here, we demonstrate a direct and simple route for the generation of single-frequency light relying on phonon-resonant Raman interactions within a monolithic diamond resonator. [...]

Efficient Production of High Specific Activity Thulium-167 at Paul Scherrer Institute and CERN-MEDICIS / Heinke, Reinhard (CERN ; Leuven U.) ; Chevallay, Eric (CERN) ; Chrysalidis, Katerina (CERN) ; Cocolios, Thomas E (Leuven U.) ; Duchemin, Charlotte (Leuven U. ; CERN) ; Fedosseev, Valentin N (CERN) ; Hurier, Sophie (Leuven U. ; SCK-CEN, Mol) ; Lambert, Laura (CERN) ; Leenders, Benji (Leuven U. ; SCK-CEN, Mol ; Gent U.) ; Marsh, Bruce A (CERN) et al.
Thulium-167 is a promising radionuclide for nuclear medicine applications with potential use for both diagnosis and therapy (“theragnostics”) in disseminated tumor cells and small metastases, due to suitable gamma-line as well as conversion/Auger electron energies. However, adequate delivery methods are yet to be developed and accompanying radiobiological effects to be investigated, demanding the availability of $^{167}$Tm in appropriate activities and quality.
