A New Boson with a Mass of 125 GeV Observed with the CMS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider / CMS Collaboration
The Higgs boson was postulated nearly five decades ago within the framework of the standard model of particle physics and has been the subject of numerous searches at accelerators around the world. Its discovery would verify the existence of a complex scalar field thought to give mass to three of the carriers of the electroweak force—the W+, W–, and Z0 bosons—as well as to the fundamental quarks and leptons. [...]

Observation of a new boson at a mass of 125 GeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC / CMS Collaboration
Results are presented from searches for the standard model Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 and 8 TeV in the CMS experiment at the LHC, using data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 5.1 inverse femtobarns at 7 TeV and 5.3 inverse femtobarns at 8 TeV. The search is performed in five decay modes: $\gamma\gamma$, ZZ, WW, $\tau^+ \tau^-$, and $b\bar{b}$. [...]

Transverse momentum and pseudorapidity distributions of charged hadrons in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 0.9 and 2.36 TeV / CMS Collaboration
Measurements of inclusive charged-hadron transverse-momentum and pseudorapidity distributions are presented for proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 0.9 and 2.36 TeV. The data were collected with the CMS detector during the LHC commissioning in December 2009. [...]

Integration of the End Cap TEC+ of the CMS Silicon Strip Tracker / Tracker End Cap Collaboration
The silicon strip tracker of the CMS experiment has been completed and inserted into the CMS detector in late 2007. The largest sub-system of the tracker is its end cap system, comprising two large end caps (TEC) each containing 3200 silicon strip modules. [...]

Petal Integration for the CMS Tracker End Caps / Bergauer, Thomas ; Dragicevic, Marko ; Friedl, Markus ; Hansel, S ; Hrubec, Josef ; Krammer, Manfred ; Pernicka, Manfred ; Beaumont, Willem ; De Wolf, Eddi A ; Bouhali, Othmane et al.
This note describes the assembly and testing of the 292 petals built for the CMS Tracker End Caps from the beginning of 2005 until the summer of 2006. Due to the large number of petals to be assembled and the need to reach a throughput of 10 to 15 petals per week, a distributed integration approach was chosen. [...]

Tracker Operation and Performance at the Magnet Test and Cosmic Challenge / Abbaneo, Duccio (CERN) ; Albergo, Sebastiano ; Ambroglini, Filippo ; Azzi, Patrizia ; Bogelsbacher, F ; Bacchetta, Nicola ; Bainbridge, Robert ; Barvich, Tobias ; Basti, Andrea ; Beaulieu, G et al.
During summer 2006 a fraction of the CMS silicon strip tracker was operated in a comprehensive slice test called the Magnet Test and Cosmic Challenge (MTCC). At the MTCC, cosmic rays detected in the muon chambers were used to trigger the readout of all CMS sub-detectors in the general data acquisition system and in the presence of the 4 T magnetic field produced by the CMS superconducting solenoid. Tests of CMS MSGC Modules at PSI / Beaumont, Willem (Antwerp U.) ; Beckers, T (Antwerp U.) ; Bernier, Kim (Antwerp U.) ; Blum, Peter (CERN) ; Bouhali, Othmane (Antwerp U.) ; Boulogne, Isabelle (Antwerp U.) ; Bozzo, Marco (INFN, Pisa) ; Brez, Alessandro (INFN, Pisa) ; Buzulutskov, A (Novosibirsk, IYF) ; Coffin, Jean-Pierre Coffin (Strasbourg, IPHC) et al.
The CMS experiment, to be installed at the future p-p collider LHC at CERN, foresees the use of Micro-Strip Gas Counters ( MSGC's) for the outer layers of its central tracker. Present developments focus on the reliability of MSGC's in the harsh radiation environment imposed by the LHC. [...]

We report on the construction and first test beam results of a prototype of two-stage amplifying detector modules with four trapezoidal elements arranged in a geometry as planned for the CMS forward tracker. The performance of the detector is studied for different operational parameters in a high energy pion beam at CERN..
