A 2D pixel detector for very high-rate X- and gamma-ray spectroscopy and imaging / Nygård, Einar (Enxense AS, Asker) ; Malakhov, Nail (Enxense AS, Asker) ; Weilhammer, Peter (CERN ; Enxense AS, Asker) ; Dorholt, Ole (U. Oslo (main)) ; Røhne, Ole M (U. Oslo (main)) ; Nagano, Terumasa ; Yamamoto, Koei (Hamamatsu Photonics)
A new methodology for very high-speed, energy-dispersive detection of X-ray fluorescence is being developed. The underlying reasoning behind it, as well as early results from the evaluation of the first prototype, is presented..

A High-Resolution PET Demonstrator using a Silicon “Magnifying Glass” / Clinthorne, Neal ; Cochran, Eric ; Chesi, Enrico (CERN) ; Grkovski, Milan ; Grošičar, Borut ; Honscheid, Klaus ; Huh, Sam S ; Kagan, Harris ; Lacasta, Carlos ; Brzezinski, Karol et al.
To assist ongoing investigations of the limits of the tradeoff between spatial resolution and noise in PET imaging, several PET instruments based on silicon-pad detectors have been developed. The latest is a segment of a dual-ring device to demonstrate that excellent reconstructed image resolution can be achieved with a scanner that uses highresolution detectors placed close to the object of interest or surrounding a small field-of-view in combination with detectors having modest resolution at larger radius. Silicon as an unconventional detector in positron emission tomography / Clinthorne, Neal (Michigan U.) ; Brzezinski, Karol (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Chesi, Enrico (CERN) ; Cochran, Eric (Ohio State U.) ; Grkovski, Milan (Stefan Inst., Ljubljana) ; Grosicar, Borut (Stefan Inst., Ljubljana) ; Honscheid, Klaus (Ohio State U.) ; Huh, Sam (Michigan U.) ; Kagan, Harris (Ohio State U.) ; Lacasta, Carlos (Valencia U., IFIC) et al.
Positron emission tomography (PET) is a widely used technique in medical imaging and in studying small animal models of human disease. In the conventional approach, the 511keV annihilation photons emitted from a patient or small animal are detected by a ring of scintillators such as LYSO read out by arrays of photodetectors. [...]

Recent Results with a segmented Hybrid Photon Detector for a novel parallax-free PET Scanner for Brain Imaging / Braem, André (CERN) ; Chesi, Enrico Guido (CERN) ; Joram, Christian (CERN) ; Mathot, Serge (CERN) ; Séguinot, Jacques (CERN) ; Weilhammer, Peter (CERN) ; Ciocia, F (INFN Bari) ; De Leo, R (INFN Bari) ; Nappi, E (INFN Bari) ; Vilardi, I (INFN Bari) et al.
We describe the design, fabrication and test results of a segmented Hybrid Photon Detector with integrated auto-triggering front-end electronics. Both the photodetector and its VLSI readout electronics are custom designed and have been tailored to the requirements of a recently proposed novel geometrical concept of a Positron Emission Tomograph. Position-sensitive Si pad detectors for electron emission channeling experiments / ISOLDE Collaboration
Position-sensitive detector systems, initially developed for the detection of X-rays, have been adapted for their use in electron emission channeling experiments. Each detection system consists of a 30.8x30.8 mm$^{2}$ 22x22 -pad Si detector, either of 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm or 1 mm thickness, four 128$-$channel preamplifier chips, a backplane trigger circuit, a sampling analog to digital converter, a digital signal processor, and a personal computer for data display and storage. Effect of SiO$_{2}$ passivating layer in segmented silicon planar detectors on the detector response / Verbitskaya, Elena ; Egorov, N ; Eremin, Vladimir ; Golubkov, S ; Konkov, K ; Roe, Shaun ; Ruggiero, G ; Sidorov, A ; Weilhammer, Peter
Silicon detectors with a fine segmentation (micropixel and microstrip) are the main type of detectors used in the inner trackers of LHC experiments. Due to the high luminosity of the LHC machines they are required to have a fast response to fit the short shaping time of 25 ns and to be radiation hard. [...]

Charge-carrier properties in synthetic single-crystal diamond measured with the transient-current technique / Pernegger, H ; Eremin, V ; Frais-Kölbl, H ; Griesmayer, E ; Kagan, H ; Roe, S ; Schnetzer, S ; Stone, R ; Trischuk, W ; Twitchen, D et al.
For optimal operation of chemical-vapor deposition (CVD) diamonds as charged particle detectors it is important to have a detailed understanding of the charge-carrier transport mechanism. This includes the determination of electron and hole drift velocities as a function of electric field, charge carrier lifetimes, as well as effective concentration of space charge in the detector bulk.
